Homeless Man
Needed Emergency
Care for his Dogs
Ted lost his job so he and his two lab mixes, Wyatt (2) and Morgan (4), had to move and now live in a trailer in the desert without hookups. The trailer was near a chicken coop which was not kept clean.
Both dogs ate chicken feces and became very ill with bloody diarrhea and bloody vomiting. Pets of the Homeless was contacted for help. We set up an emergency appointment at a nearby clinic and paid most of the veterinary bill.
The treatment included exam, fluids and Amoxicillin. Both dogs are on the road to recovery.
The best part of this story is the veterinary technician offered Ted, Wyatt and Morgan a place to live in exchange caretaking the dogs at her own rescue. She currently cares for 17 dogs and 3 cats.
Pets of the Homeless is grateful to have been able to help Wyatt and Morgan. Ted is appreciative and his pets, we're certain, are happy to be feeling well again.
Pets of the Homeless is always in need of donations with our outreach. Would you help? Please visit Pets of the Homeless to find out how. We appreciate our volunteers and donors more than words can say. |
Pets of the Homeless
Recipient Wants to Help
After volunteering for the Poverty and Homeless Coalition of Irving, TX, Julie Grant received a referral that touched her heart more than once. Also a volunteer for Pets of the Homeless, Julie felt compelled to share this story.
Fred was indeed a gentleman and his companion a beautiful, brindle pit bull mix. He had been referred so he could get some dog food.
Fred, a veteran and college educated, had a work history where he had earned high incomes until a medical condition, neuropathy, made it impossible to work at a conventional job. He has good day and bad days.
When Julie met with him, Fred was not having a good day and the weakness in his limbs was apparent. Not wanting to tax his energy, Julie tried not to stay too long but he wanted to talk.
Fred talked about his background and included that he is currently in an experimental medical program which he feels is helping. Still he cannot hold down a job. "The government," he said, "has helped with a few dollars, but I want to earn my own way."
Julie left Fred with some dog food and returned home with a prayer in her heart.
The next day he called to tell her that his landlord had given him an opportunity to earn some money. She had him clean a vacant apartment because the hired person had not shown up. The landlord was so pleased with the great job Fred did that she hired him on the spot for the part-time job. Fred was excited to be able to earn a good wage.
He told Julie, "I would like to help you with your volunteer work in some way. If you need someone to ride with you to make deliveries, I would like to do that."
Julie was shocked a recipient would consider helping. There have been times when she was hesitant to deliver to a home by herself so Fred's offer was very much appreciated.
People touching other's lives "pays it forward" and the giving and compassion continue. Pets of the Homeless is honored to be involved with each of our generous volunteers to help in any way we can. |
