Issue 34          ~~          May 2011

Greetings!

Pets of the Homeless would like to thank everyone that contributed to our Call to Action to help the tornado and flood victims that are homeless.  Your generosity is awesome and will go a long way to help the pets of many.

Renaissance Academy

School with a BIG Heart

Rachael Epps from tuition-free public Charter School, The Renaissance Academy, initiated the effort of students and staff to collect pet food for Pets of the Homeless.  Contributions amounted to 197 pounds of dry dog food, 200 pounds of cat food, 240 cans of dog food, 445 cans of cat food and 48 pounds of treats and biscuits.

This school with a heart of gold, has made it possible for the ongoing efforts to feed pets of the homeless and financially needy in their community.  Chris Davis, Pets of the Homeless volunteer, took their contributions to many area soup kitchens and food pantries for distribution to those most in need.

One person acting as a catalyst can direct the efforts of many to make things happen in a BIG way.  Rachael Epps was that catalyst.  Pets of the Homeless is grateful for the determination of The Renaissance Academy to help pets of the homeless in their community.

The Pet Doctor

Outreach

Marcy Hammerle, DVM, with The Pet Doctor, along with Kelly Hogan, DVM, and a caring, dedicated support staff,  provide state of the art veterinary care.  Because of a shared central philosophy, the medical pet care they provide includes attention to the special bond between people and their pets.

The Pet Doctor expressed gratitude for the generous grant awarded by Pets of the Homeless.  The grant assisted to provide FREE veterinary care for pets of the homeless and most needy in the community.

The outreach effort is tied with the St. Louis Area FoodbankPet vaccination clinics will be held at local Salvation Army locations and at Foodbank Food Fairs.  Funds are available for spay/neuter surgeries for these pets.

Pets of the Homeless Founder and Executive Director, Genevieve Frederick was also more than happy to provide two different logos for them to use to get the word out.
