|
Two Churches Withdraw from NC Association in Response to Dismissal
Two churches in Mount Airy, N.C., have withdrawn from the local Surry Baptist Association in response to its dismissal last July of an affiliated church which called a woman as pastor.
Piney Grove Baptist Church voted unanimously Nov. 30 to leave the 66-church association, centered on Surry County northwest of Winston-Salem, N.C. Four days later, on Dec. 4, First Baptist Church also voted, 145-34, to end its ties. Both churches cited the association's July 26 action to dismiss Flat Rock Baptist Church in Mount Airy two weeks after its new female pastor, Bailey Edwards Nelson, began her ministry there. But they added Surry's move was only the latest indication of growing disagreement with the association's direction.

Lilly Endowment Makes $750,000 Grant
to Assist Ministers in First Church
For the fourth time in nine years, the Lilly Endowment Inc. has made a significant grant to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship as it serves churches and ministers.
After three previous grants totaling $4 million, the Lilly Endowment has just announced the award of a $750,150 grant to the Fellowship to create a new program that will serve ministers in their first call. ... read more

Summer Mission Program in China
Volunteers for China is seeking Christians who feel guided to go to China to teach oral English for three weeks or more in July-August 2012. Adults and college students are welcome to apply. Clothing Request for Victims of Trafficking
CBF Field Personnel Butch and Nell Green will be partnering informally with Mission Centers of Houston to provide clothing for women who have been taken into police custody while it is determined if they are victims of trafficking. Clothes are needed for these women and girls. Your church, small group, or you as an individual could help by packaging a new small or medium women's sweat suit, a new pair of flip flops and a few pair of new underwear. These will be delivered to the Mission Centers who then distribute them. The Mission Centers are also in need of plastic and paper bags for their extensive food distribution. Send all contributions to 1875 Ewing St, Houston, TX 77004.
Disaster Rebuilding Teams are Needed in Raleigh
Thousands of volunteers have helped all across Eastern NC following the April 16 tornadoes. We are in the rebuilding stages in Raleigh and volunteers are needed right now. In the coming weeks we will begin building new homes in Bertie county and additional volunteers will be needed there soon. Building Hope Project Ministry CommitteeThe Building Hope Project connects volunteer groups with farmworker families to build small chicken coops and greenhouses. These low-cost structures help families save money and supplement their nutrition. Each building project requires a donation of $600 and requires about 12-15 volunteers for 2 partial work days (usually Saturday-Sunday). Learn more and sign up at this website.

Martha Stearns Marshall Day of Preaching
Baptist Women in Ministry invites all Baptist churches in North Carolina to participate in the Martha Stearns Marshall Day of Preaching by inviting a woman to preach on a Sunday in February 2012. Last year, 185 churches world-wide (49 from NC) celebrated God's calling and gifting of women preachers by participating in the Martha Stearns Marshall Day of Preaching. Help us increase that number by inviting a woman now to preach at your church in February of 2012. When you have confirmed your preacher, please send your church name, city, state, pastor, the name of your guest preacher, and contact information to Pam Durso.
