Free Resource for Your Church
|
Your church has received a free resource, a copy of
CBFNC-sponsored "Gospel Without Borders" DVD, featuring Hector Villanueva's story. We hope that you will share this resource with your church members and larger community by organizing a screening of this immigration documentary.
Please find discussion guide, Bible study and additional resources at www.ethicsdaily.com. Learn about Hector's Story: CBFNC Pastor and Missions Council Member, Hector Villanueva, recently faced deportation. A legal resident who has lived in the U.S. since the age of three, Hector was arrested by the sheriff's department at his house in front of his wife and children, who are American citizens. Hector had applied for citizenship, and a background check revealed a prior record. Authorities found that when he was homeless in California, he had tried to cash a check that wasn't his. ... read more. ________________________ Visit the Religious Herald website to read "Crossing boundaries in ministry poses opportunities, challenges," an article discussing partnering with organizations beyond the Baptist world. CBNFC's Immigration Documentary is mentioned as an example of crossing denominational lines.

Devotional from Roger Gilbert
One from our CBFNC family has written a devotional for the Scripture focus. Read this week's devotional from Roger Gilbert, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Mount Airy. Dig Some Wells for Others Along the Way by Dr. Mark T. White
A Winston-Salem columnist reminded his readers that self-focused living now surrounds us, and we cannot deny the escalation of "meism" in our society today. Delayed gratification is basically non-existent. Replenishing what we have taken is rarely a priority. Oblivious to the biblical principal that future generations suffer from the myopia of their ancestors, people continue to take, take, and take.

CBF National
| Resources to Help You Prepare for Advent
As the first Sunday of Advent quickly approaches (Nov. 27), what is your church doing to help members "prepare a way" for the Christ-child? How will your church emphasize Advent in its worship, fellowship, and discipleship opportunities? CBF has compiled Advent resources for your congregation, including Words That Shape and Form - a 40-day resource for use by individuals, small groups, and congregations that explores the meaning and transforming potential of words like advent, missional, and xenos. With reflection questions and spiral binding, this resource makes for an exceptional devotional piece or small group study.

Clothing Request for Victims of Trafficking
CBF Field Personnel Butch and Nell Green will be partnering informally with Mission Centers of Houston to provide clothing for women who have been taken into police custody while it is determined if they are victims of trafficking. Clothes are needed for these women and girls. Your church, small group, or you as an individual could help by packaging a new small or medium women's sweat suit, a new pair of flip flops and a few pair of new underwear. These will be delivered to the Mission Centers who then distribute them. The Mission Centers are also in need of plastic and paper bags for their extensive food distribution. Send all contributions to 1875 Ewing St, Houston, TX 77004.
Disaster Rebuilding Teams are Needed in Raleigh
Thousands of volunteers have helped all across Eastern NC following the April 16 tornadoes. We are in the rebuilding stages in Raleigh and volunteers are needed right now. In the coming weeks we will begin building new homes in Bertie county and additional volunteers will be needed there soon. For more information on how you can be involved go to the Baptists on Mission website.
Building Hope Project Ministry CommitteeThe Building Hope Project connects volunteer groups with farmworker families to build small chicken coops and greenhouses. These low-cost structures help families save money and supplement their nutrition. Each building project requires a donation of $600 and requires about 12-15 volunteers for 2 partial work days (usually Saturday-Sunday). Learn more and sign up at this website.

Tree Angels for NC Troops
Wake Forest Baptist Church in Wake Forest is working again this year with the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg to provide a Christmas tree to families who have a deployed spouse. As you remember, the cost of a Christmas tree to an enlisted man is a major expenditure. This is an opportunity for us to exhibit Christ's love and demonstrate your support of those on the forefront of the defense of our freedoms in a real and tangible manner. Cost is $55 and the deadline is November 21st. Should you have further questions or would like to participate, please call the church office at 919-556-5141 or e-mail Dave Shannon.
Baptist Children's Homes of NC -- Thanksgiving Offering
The offering theme for 2011 is Changed! Just as the Spring's first caterpillar bursts forth from its cocoon to emerge as a beautiful butterfly, children living at Baptist Children's Homes experience a metamorphosis of their own. Christian houseparents nurture boys and girls, many who have never experienced the compassion of a caring adult, and teach them about Jesus. And as children, like Kourri, hear more about His life-changing love, God carefully knits a cocoon around their hearts. Like the caterpillar, when the moment is right, children's hearts and lives are transformed. They are a new creature in Christ. Click here to see and hear Kourri's story.

Personnel Requests
| Frequently CBFNC receives requests from churches about placing an ad for filling church positions or staff. While we do not have a place for these ads in our newsletter, The Gathering, we are willing to publish positions in our e-newsletter. These ads are for non-ministerial staff positions only. However, we do offer a Reference and Referral service with our Ministerial Resources Coordinator, Jack Causey for staff positions. Please visit our website to learn more about staff placement through CBFNC. If you would like to place an ad for a non-ministerial staff position in our enewsletter, please contact Sarah Mitchell at SMitchell@cbfnc.org or (888) 822-1944.
Are You Looking for a Place in Ministry?
Call today to meet with Jack Causey, Ministerial Resources Coordinator, on a confidential basis about your ministry pilgrimage. Contact Jim Hylton, 888-822-1944, to schedule an appointment. Learn more about the CBFNC Reference and Referral Ministry
