| CBFNC | Devotional from Roger Underwood
One from our CBFNC family has written a devotional for the Scripture focus. Read this week's devotional from Roger Underwood, intentional interim minister most recently at Knollwod Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
Fall: Midlife and the Season of Harvesting by Dr. Guy Sayles
Midlife is the autumn, the fall, of the human journey. Who knows precisely how young or old a middle-aged person is? Chronologically it starts within sight of 40 and ends within range of 70. But, chronology is not the main marker of midlife. The realizations and emotions, the challenges and invitations, of this season come to some people when they are younger and never dawn on others, even though they draw Social Security checks and take annual distributions from their IRAs.

CBF National
| October Ministry Focus: Ministering Among Homeless in Rural NC
Since 2009 CBF field personnel Anna and LaCount Anderson have worked among the homeless in rural Halifax County, NC, located along the coast in the northeast portion of the state. The poverty rate is nearly 25 percent, as compared to 13 percent nationwide, and the unemployment rate is 12.4 percent. The needs are basic: food, shelter and knowing God's love. The Andersons seek to be Christ's presence in this community through literacy programs, community gardens, shelters for people who are homeless, food distribution and Bible study.

Missions Request
|
Clothing Request for Victims of Trafficking
CBF Field Personnel Butch and Nell Green will be partnering informally with Mission Centers of Houston to provide clothing for women who have been taken into police custody while it is determined if they are victims of trafficking. Clothes are needed for these women and girls. Your church, small group, or you as an individual could help by packaging a new small or medium women's sweat suit, a new pair of flip flops and a few pair of new underwear. These will be delivered to the Mission Centers who then distribute them. The Mission Centers are also in need of plastic and paper bags for their extensive food distribution. Send all contributions to 1875 Ewing St, Houston, TX 77004.
Disaster Rebuilding Teams are Needed in Raleigh
Thousands of volunteers have helped all across Eastern NC following the April 16 tornadoes. We are in the rebuilding stages in Raleigh and volunteers are needed right now. In the coming weeks we will begin building new homes in Bertie county and additional volunteers will be needed there soon. For more information on how you can be involved go to the Baptists on Mission website.
Building Hope Project Ministry CommitteeThe Building Hope Project connects volunteer groups with farmworker families to build small chicken coops and greenhouses. These low-cost structures help families save money and supplement their nutrition. Each building project requires a donation of $600 and requires about 12-15 volunteers for 2 partial work days (usually Saturday-Sunday). Learn more and sign up at this website.

Baptist Children's Homes of NC -- Thanksgiving Offering
The offering theme for 2011 is Changed! Just as the Spring's first caterpillar bursts forth from its cocoon to emerge as a beautiful butterfly, children living at Baptist Children's Homes experience a metamorphosis of their own. Christian houseparents nurture boys and girls, many who have never experienced the compassion of a caring adult, and teach them about Jesus. And as children, like Kourri, hear more about His life-changing love, God carefully knits a cocoon around their hearts. Like the caterpillar, when the moment is right, children's hearts and lives are transformed. They are a new creature in Christ. Click here to see and hear Kourri's story.
