The Elevating Preaching Conference is co-sponsored by Campbell University Divinity School and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina. Three noted preachers with three distinct styles will inspire you with their messages and then dialogue with you about their sermons.

Following lunch, you will have opportunities to hear more from them and other outstanding preachers in Personal Interest Groups (listed below) concerning preaching resources and styles.  Each interest group session will be repeated so you will be able to attend two of those offered.  A closing service of worship will feature the Campbell University Choir.

This conference will be held the day before the Reavis Ministry Lectures. We hope you can join us for both! Click here to read a Letter to Preachers

Healing Communities conference
Healing Communities:

Conversations Toward Shalom

September 30, 2011, 8:30 AM - 3 PM
Wake Forest School of Divinity, Winston-Salem

Join other people of faith to explore how our understandings and practices of "shalom" - the all-embracing health, wholeness and salvation God intends for human beings and all creation-may contribute to the healing of our communities.   Drawing on a variety of disciplines and informed by scripture and theology, our presenters, panelists, and table conversations will provide motivation and models for communication, collaboration and action.

We'll explore the vital connections between individual and community health, between theories and theologies of salvation and practical initiatives and ministries, and between environmental and personal well-being.

Teach the Controversy  by Rev. Jason Blanton

"We just don't talk about that kind of stuff!"
That is a common thought among families trying to "get along" during holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. People from far flung reaches of the country, with very different lifestyles and values coming together around the table can be quite challenging, so, in order to make things less challenging, we typically are taught to avoid certain topics.

Vestal Announces Decision to Retire as CBF Executive Coordinator

ATLANTA - Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Executive Coordinator Daniel Vestal announced to the organization's Advisory Council that he will retire as executive coordinator effective June 30, 2012.

"Fifteen years ago I sensed a calling of the Spirit to become coordinator of Cooperative Baptist Fellowship," Vestal told the Advisory Council at its regularly scheduled September meeting. "Now I am sensing a release from that calling. I will serve until June 30, unless a new coordinator is chosen earlier. I have also asked the officers to act according to our personnel policies and appoint a search committee for the new Executive Coordinator.

"Through the years I have discovered that discerning the will of God for my life and ministry has been an unfolding experience," Vestal said. "Seldom have I known providence other than in illumination for the next decision or in strength for the next step. And that has been sufficient. Often I have prayed for wisdom as I approached times of transition. Now is such a time for transition."

The Fellowship's Advisory Council meets and acts on behalf of the full governing body, the Coordinating Council, between meetings. The Coordinating Council is scheduled to meet Oct. 19-21 in Atlanta. The Advisory Council is composed of the Fellowship's elected officers, Coordinating Council committee and initiative team chairs and the national staff coordinators.

The Fellowship's officers will begin the process of finding Vestal's replacement by appointing a search committee.    ... read more.

Missions Request

Clothing Request for Victims of Trafficking

CBF Field Personnel Butch and Nell Green will be partnering informally with Mission Centers of Houston to provide clothing for women who have been taken into police custody while it is determined if they are victims of trafficking. Clothes are needed for these women and girls. Your church, small group, or you as an individual could help by packaging a new small or medium women's sweat suit, a new pair of flip flops and a few pair of new underwear. These will be delivered to the Mission Centers who then distribute them.  The Mission Centers are also in need of plastic and paper bags for their extensive food distribution.  Send all contributions to 1875 Ewing St, Houston, TX 77004.

Disaster Rebuilding Teams are Needed in Raleigh

Thousands of volunteers have helped all across Eastern NC following the April 16 tornadoes. We are in the rebuilding stages in Raleigh and volunteers are needed right now. In the coming weeks we will begin building new homes in Bertie county and additional volunteers will be needed there soon. For more information on how you can be involved go to the Baptists on Mission website.
