Teacher Training

CBFNC is happy to partner with the following churches to provide training for teachers of adult classes. Rick Jordan, CBFNC's Church Resources Coordinator, will lead the training, which he promises to be interactive, interesting and insightful. And, maybe entertaining.

The training will be guided by Rick's FIT model (Fellowship, Instruction, Transformation), used in the new curriculum published by Baptists Today, for which Rick writes the adult teacher lessons. However, the training will show how any curriculum can be adapted to reach these key goals for every lesson, so the training will be applicable to any and all teachers.

There will be solid methodology to help new teachers and fresh perspectives to refresh veterans!   Visit our website to register.

September 11, 2001, from an Immigrant's Point of View

by Pastor Daniel Sostaita, Iglesia Cristiana Sin Fronteras in King

The clock ticked to signal that another minute had passed. It was an ordinary morning, just like all the others that passed unnoticed and uneventfully at Stokes Tire, where the outside world seemed like an illusion and the only thing on my mind was the vehicle sitting in front of me.

I recall going into the customer's waiting room and discovering a group of people huddled around the television, crying, screaming, and mumbling to themselves. Their facial expressions expressed their inward emotions: terror, desolation, fear. A million questions were floating around in the air. Has God abandoned us? Why was this happening? Is this an omen of what lies in our future? Without an answer in mind, only the silence of the pain and tragedy invading my heart and mind, I could hear Eddy's (my manager) voice like a faint whisper being overshadowed by the images of hatred and violence on the television. I was paralyzed by those frightening images, unable to move, unable to look away, unable to think or fully grasp the immensity of what was happening before my eyes. My world caved in on itself. I, and the millions of others watching, were silenced.     ... read more

Justice for Hector, but a Long Road Ahead

Friday, September 2, 2011, was over a year in the making for Hector Villanueva, CBFNC pastor and legal resident who faced deportation after applying for citizenship and was arrested for a 15-year-old crime for which he had already served time-cashing a check that wasn't his while homeless. CBFNC staff organized ministers and laity to pack the courtroom in support, and Hector gave compelling testimony about his transformation in serving God through his ministry and his commitment to his wife and children, which includes two adopted daughters. The judge, moved by his testimony and our support, said that he was convinced of Hector's "rehabilitation" and canceled his deportation. The judge carefully reminded him that he could never be a citizen under current U.S. immigration law, though his wife and children all enjoy that privilege.
