Crown Jewels of Canada Society Newsletter June
2010 Issue
#11

Dear Member:
A year! Where did the time go? Seems like it was not that long ago that this was all a dream. One year ago I approached the lawyer and moved forward to form a National Non-Profit. Of course working with the government, nothing happens too quickly. The lawyer said it should just take a few weeks, but for a "National" organization it takes (as we learned) significantly longer.
Well, we're still here and continuing to grow. Thank you ladies!
I've been out of communication for the past five weeks due to a stay in hospital followed by a vacation. I'm BACK and raring to go!
Unfortunately, we arrived home to find that Telus was "down" and any emails sent to me during the 4 days of the May long weekend - were lost in cyberspace. I never received them so if I didn't answer you, please contact me again. You probably would have had a return message saying "no such email address" or something similar.
Lot's of updated information on our convention! So much so, that I'm putting most of it into a special newsletter that will go just to those attending. The excitement is mounting and the big event is getting closer! Enthusiasm is growing. " See you in September!"
I'm excited for a double reason. September 11th is not only the convention but the due date for our first grandchild and I am soooo excited about both! I've got my wardrobe ready for the convention and now I'm into shopping for baby things. ... Speaking of shopping we've got some great vendors lined up for the convention!
Please note... be careful you do not accidentally click on "unsubscribe." If you remove yourself from the mailing list you may not be able to get back on. If you have received this newsletter directly from the CJCS then there is no need to subscribe. You are on the CJCS mailing list.

IF SOMEONE SHOULD ASK YOU FOR INFORMATION ON THE CJCS
To avoid ladies getting the wrong information we ask that you please refer them to our web site at:
www.crownjewelsofcanada.com Or they can email us at: info@crownjewelsofcanada.com
There is a LOT of old out-datedinformation circulating and old registration forms. Please do not forward information. Use one of the above methods to share information please. |

Only our members have access to this password protected web site so your photos are not released in any way to the general public.
HOW TO ADD YOUR PHOTO - It's not that difficult.
- Put your mouse over the photo box and click on "change photo"
- A new page opens and at the top in the middle is a box BROWSE - click on this word and search your computer's picture file folder for a photo or graphic of your choice.
- Click on a photo to upload it
- Scroll to bottom of page and click on "SAVE".
If you don't have a photo to use, why not chose a fun graphic? Graphics are offered under the tab "HOW TO/FUN STUFF" on the "GRAPHICS TO SHARE" page. Scroll through the pages of graphics until you find something you like. Right click on the graphic and then click on "SAVE IMAGE AS" to save it to your computers PICTURES file (or to your download file) Feel free to save and use any of the graphics posted. |
CHANGING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS? There are several steps YOU need to take. First is to send an email to us at info@crownjewelsofcanada.com so we can update our master membership registration records.
If you have registered for the convention, please mention this so we can adjust your email address in the convention files. Also if you are in the CJCS Insurance policy please advise us to update that file too.
Our newsletter is an automated mailing program. As long as we have your correct email address in our master file, you will receive the newsletter every month (and any other mailing we send to members.)
We can not change you email address on the web site. You will have to do that yourself. Go to the tab MY PAGE (yours not mine) and go into your profile and go to your "settings" and change your email address and then please remember to click "SAVE" at the bottom of the page.

MISSED A NEWSLETTER?
All past
newsletters are archived online and may be accessed on the member's web
site on the MAIN page. Look in the upper left corner for the link to
our archives. One member said she printed out the newsletters and kept
them in a binder for easy reference. What a great idea!

| CHAPTER MEMBER NAME BADGES
We now have three companies able to create custom name badges for your chapter, using the CJCS logo. These companies all have the CJCS logo on file and have sent some sample designs be posted on the members web site soon. We don't promote any one company as each offers a different type of badge, all with a large magnet backing. We have no connection to any of these companies, they are just ones I've used in the past. I believe they cost anywhere from $7-$8.50 per badge plus tax & S&H.

SUGGESTIONS FOR GRANDMAS
Here are two products
that are really great for Grandmothers (and others too might find ways
to utilize these products. Hallmark recordable books. First they came out
with greeting cards where you could record a short message. This year
at Christmas they introduced books you can record while reading and then
send to a grandchild far away. Each time the child opens the book, they
hear you reading them a story! SKYPE - Do you
Skype? Do you know what it is? A computer program you can download for
free that lets you see someone and talk to them (you need a web cam).
It's almost like sitting in the same room. You can read to your grandchildren and hold the
pictures up to the camera. You
can talk and see everyone and it's really almost like sitting in the
same room
with them. Blow them kisses, say hi, see their schoolwork. Show off your
Jewels outfit to a friend! We have sisters who are Jewels. One is going to be in Egypt
for awhile and the other lives in B.C. Skype allows the sisters to
"almost be together" and sit and enjoy a cup of tea together and get
caught up on all the news. Just type SKYPE into a search engine and
download the free program.

AGENDA ITEMS - PLANNING AHEAD
- MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS AND NEW MEMBERS AFTER
OCTOBER 2010
I am bringing this issue up now, as many chapters like
to really plan ahead because they may have members who are "Snowbirds" that head
south in the fall. We know many of you like to have information in advance
so you can plan your year.
Many of you joined the CJCS in 2009 and as a bonus we
offered you the balance of 2009 and 2010 with your membership fee.
It's our
thought, to offer new members joining after October 1st
2010 the same option. When they pay their registration fee and membership fee after October 1st it would include the balance of 2010 and all of 2011. ALL memberships renewal fees are due December 31st for the year 2011. This of
course, must be voted on and approved by a quorum of members, at the Annual
General Meeting. As well, the 2010 membership fee must also be voted on and
approved at the AGM, by the members. I remind you that the Board of Directors
and/or the members control the important issues of this association, not one
person.
- DO WE HAVE A "MAGIC AGE"
Many members love the pomp and pageantry of a "Coming of Age" ("grad"-uation) Ceremony and ask if we have something similar in the Crown Jewels that is unique to our organization. It was suggested we use the same word as an uncut diamond is called - well ladies apparently it's called "Kimberlite peridotite." Not an exciting name. Another suggestion is a CZ or a rhinestone... (our "rhinestone girls"?) or perhaps we have a "Coronation" and until the Coronation members can not wear a tiara or crown or perhaps they are called a Princess until such time as their Coronation. Put on your thinking caps ladies and share with us your thoughts. Did you know that there is a DISCUSSION Group on the member web site to share your CJCS unique words with us? Or send them to the office and we'll put it on the Agenda for the AGM (Annual Meeting)

WHAT'S OUR ROYAL JEWEL UP TO?
The past few days and the coming month are busy ones. Friday I drove to Vernon to participate in the Silver Star Jewels Annual Golf & Dinner. These ladies pulled off a miracle and for the most part kept the rain (or most of it) away from their precious Jewels. We had great fun playing 9-holes of golf then a wonderful dinner at Hillside Golf Club. One of the best awards at a golf tournament is the winning of the fabled "Green Jacket." Of course the Silver Star ladies came up with their own version... green garbage bags fashioned into "jackets" with a "corsage" of ribbons attached. MUCH laughter was had by all! Unfortunately, the Royal Crown Jewel wasn't on the winning team! Maybe next year. The next day I drove with one of my "Divas 'n Diamonds" to Tappen, B.C. (Somewhere we'd never been before!) and we attended the "Sunnybrae Dazzling Divas" Strawberry Tea. I must tell you they had the most amazing invitations, each one apparently unique (these ladies must be scrapbookers) and each looked like an elegant wedding invitation. Just beautiful! Two long but really enjoyable days. Wednesday I'm attending a Strawberry Tea hosted by HRH Queen Dorothy, who just happens to be 103 years young and probably is one of the most amazing women I know! I recently attended her chapter's monthly meeting and watched this woman in action planning this event. Some of you may remember her, as many sent birthday cards to her when she turned 100. We presented her with a huge gift basket filled with hundreds of cards. Later this month I'm off to a "Putting Golf & Lunch" event and an orchard tour (on a wagon) and luncheon. Lots of fun! That's what it's all about! ... and meeting wonderful ladies and hearing "their stories" as we all have a story!
I've heard via the grapevine that our Alberta Board Member, Elaine Hill, recently hosted a fabulous car rally - in May - in the snow! In spite of the weather apparently it was a huge success and as a result, a few of us in B.C. are hoping to wangle an invitation next year!
Speaking of Elaine, she's off this month on her Crown Jewels Alaskan cruise. What fun! If you've ordered membership pins recently, there may be a short delay in delivery, until Elaine is home again and can get your order into the mail.

| INSURANCE
If your chapter registered for insurance, we now have the policies. Unfortunately, as we're using a new company, they did it differently and once into it realized their error as it turned out to be a really massive undertaking, causing a huge delay. They have issued one policy per person rather than per chapter. The cost to mail all these policies and the time it would take, are massive. I would have to hire someone to tackle the mailing of each policy. Therefore I will be scanning the master policy and sending a copy to each chapter. The original policies will be kept in our office, available should you ever need a copy (hopefully never!) If for some reason you must have a copy, please contact our office and we will tell you the cost to ship the policies to you and you can forward the payment. I hope that this is satisfactory with all of you and assure you that next year will be much different.
