Crown Jewels of Canada Society
February 2010 Newsletter |
| Greetings!
We have a new logo that proudly displays our pins! We're now using this new logo on our Newsletters and Member's Web Site.
Please add crownjewelsofcanadasociety@gmail.com to your safe senders list. Our emails to you are sent from this address, including the newsletters. PLEASE remember that when you contact me, to tell me your name,
chapter name and province and town/city. Please understand that without
this information, it's really time consuming to sort through all
membership records to find your data. Thank you!
February - the month of love... the "red" month... the month to share your heart. Why not send a free "red ribbon" gift (on the member's web site) to your friends, and even those you don't know. See how many red hearts you can collect this month. Share the love!
Convention registrations are flooding our post office box!
Remember that the price goes up February 15th!!!
CJCS chapters are listed on the web site. Updates are done "approximately" once a month. They're listed under the CHAPTERS tab.
Something new under FORUMS on the MAIN page is CJCS Vocabulary. Do you have some "Crown Jewels" names? If so, this is the place to share them with other chapters. We need to build our own descriptive vocabulary. One chapter calls their chapter the "JEWEL BOX" - use of these words is optional ladies but you might get some great ideas.
MISSED AN ISSUE - or new to the Crown Jewels? All past newsletters are archived online on the members web site. Newsletters are sent by an automatic program. If you change your email address, please re-subscribe with your new email address. (I can't do it for you as it's an automated program) Do send me the changes too though so we can update our membership and/or insurance records.
We have 166 names on the newsletter mailing list that we know are not receiving their newsletters as their email address is incorrect. If you know of someone who's a paid CJCS member of your chapter and they are not receiving the newsletters, please forward it to them and suggest they click on the link to join the mailing list. We'd hate for anyone to be missing information! We also have a few ISP's that are blocking delivery. If that is the case, I suggest these people open a yahoo, hotmail or gmail account.

| LETTER OF WELCOME - reaching out to EVERY member.
Your board worked very hard during the month of January to send an email letter of WELCOME to every member of the Crown Jewels. You also should have received your CJCS membership numbers by now too. (a 3 or 4 digit number) These were sent to the Queens so that they would forward to their members. You do not have a chapter number, just your own personal membership numbers. You will need this number to register at the convention and probably at other CJCS events.
Many emails were returned to us as undeliverable. This may be because you have not added us to your safe senders list and our emails to you are being blocked by your ISP or an incorrect email address in our files. If someone in your chapter did not recieve the welcome letter, perhaps it is because we do not have their correct email address, or it was not provided to us when your chapter registered with us. Please have them contact Lynda at crownjewelsofcanadasociety@gmail.com
If you are away for an extended time and unable to download your emails, why not set up a free account with gmail, yahoo or hotmail. They have unlimited storage space for incoming emails and won't clog your regular isp inbox where you perhaps prefer only personal emails. When you are away, you can also set up your shaw, telus, sasktel, and other emails to be forwarded to these free accounts too, again so your inbox isn't clogged and mail bounced back to the sender. We'd hate for you to miss any important emails from us!!! Too often we receive a bounced message from your ISP saying "account over quota" and we know you're missing out on our notices.
All members with email should be receiving regular monthly newsletters. To subscribe they can click on the link 'JOIN OUR MAILING LIST" on the web site or at the bottom of this newsletter. Please do not share this with NON-MEMBERS.

| CONVENTION UPDATE
The good news is that in less than one month the convention is already half sold out! Don't delay registering or you might be disappointed! Space is limited!!!!
BUS FROM ALBERTA
If you are coming from the Calgary area and are interested in coming by bus, please contact Elaine Hill for information ASAP.
REGISTRATION FORM
Please contact Lynda if you would like a registration form mailed to you in PDF form. Some ladies, depending on your computer and printer settings, are having difficulty printing the form onto one page.
CHRISTMAS TREES AND CANDY CANES
If your chapter plans to bring a Christmas Tree or a Candy Cane to help decorate the walls at the convention, please remember to make it out of "BRISTOL BOARD" (heavy cardboard that is approx. 2ftx3ft - available at Michael's and craft stores as well as most "dollar" stores)
Remember that these will be hung on the walls, using double-sided painters tape, therefore they can't be heavy.
Use red, green or white Bristol board. Decorate it any way you wish... with small light-weight ornaments, paint, etc. Don't forget to sign your chapter's name at the bottom!
HOTEL BOOKINGS
The Coast Capri is almost sold out. I know that someone was able to get a room yesterday so rooms are available. There are some of the more expensive rooms and suites still available. Do not be discouraged. Call and book the room of your choice, asking to be placed on the wait list if it's not available. Many gals booked a block of rooms before registration opened but now may not need all the rooms they booked, or plans change so rooms DO become available all the time and the hotel is willing to keep a wait list of those wishing to book a room. Plans change and some may cancel, at any time, so being on the wait list is the best way to ensure getting the room of your choice.
We do have alternate accommodations available with the Accent Inn (across the street) with a special rate just for us. Contact Lynda for booking information.
REGISTRATION RATES GOING UP
The registrations are coming in quickly. Please remember that the rate increases from $185 to $200 for all registrations postmarked after February 16th, 2010 (no exceptions) Space is limited ladies so don't be disappointed by waiting too long to register for the convention! |

| MEMBER NOTES
We welcome a new Provincial Representative, Linda Cummings from Halifax Nova Scotia. Stop by her page on the members web site and say hello!
January 26, 2010 our JEWEL, Sylvia, carried the Olympic Torch in Kelowna B.C. - Jewels were on hand to cheer her on, followed by a celebratory breakfast. (Sylvia is a member of Founder Lynda Millard's chapter - Diva's 'n Diamonds)
The thoughtfulness and kindness of our members was shown recently in our Board of Director's member Debbie's chapter. A member of the chapter was recently in an automobile accident. As a result, she isn't able to register for the convention in time to receive the discounted rate. When the members of the chapter heard about Darlene's accident they made the decision to use the money in their chapter "kitty" (from 50-50 draws etc.) to lend her the money for her registration so she could send it on time and not be left out. Kudos to these women who showed their bond of friendship and trust in their sister JEWEL. Hugs to all the women in the chapter!!
Queen Dorothy is the Queen of the Lakeshore Place chapter (a senior's residence) in Kelowna B.C. Today I had a hand-written letter from Dorothy, who plans to attend the convention in September!
The remarkable thing about this is that Queen Dorothy will be 103 years young in March 2010!
If you would like to send birthday wishes to Queen Dorothy for her 103 birthday her address is:
Dorothy Bowden, Ste 410, 3200 Lakeshore Place, Kelowna B.C. V1W 3T2
From her letter to me: "Last year meant great effort, time and energy coupled with frustration (for you). It means much to me to know we have our own Canadian Society and I congratulate you and appreciate your time spent on behalf of all members.
...My thoughts are to attend meetings (our Royal Court monthly meetings which she loves to attend) and hope the General Meeting and Convention Sept 10-12 in our own city will find me among those in attendance.
...May this year be filled to overflowing with everything Good! Love Dorothy

| OLYMPIC TORCH AND THE JEWELS
The Olympic Torch has been slowly making it's way across Canada. The JEWELS are so proud that one of our members was a torch bearer.
January 25, JEWELS lined the roadway in Westbank, B.C. to cheer on the torch with signs, created by JEWEL Darlene raised proudly as they sang "O Canada" as the torch passed. A video taken by Sandy of this event has been posted on the members web site. Check it out!
At 7:15am the next day JEWELS were lining Pandosy St. in Kelowna B.C. to cheer on fellow JEWEL Sylvia who was a proud Torch Bearer representing the CROWN JEWELS OF CANADA SOCIETY.
In Sylvia's words: "Words cannot express my gratitude to my Diva sisters who proudly came out so early in the morning to share my incredible experience in carrying the Olympic Flame for Canada. I am a changed person, so joyful, humbled and truly a proud Canadian. I will be 'flying' for a long, long time." - Sylvia, we are all so very proud of you!

IF SOMEONE ASKS YOU FOR INFORMATION...
We have updated our information and the application form for 2010.
To avoid ladies getting the wrong information we ask that you please refer them to our web site at:
www.crownjewelsofcanada.com
or they can email me at:
info@crownjewelsofcanada.com
Please do not "promote" the CJCS during a RHS gathering or meeting as this could be interpreted as "soliciation." |
| NO RULES BUT WE CAN HAVE POLICIES CAN'T WE? How to handle touchy "issues" I occasionally get questions on how to handle a sticky situation. Some are discussed at Royal Court meetings and some come via emails. When something is of interest, I will publish it in our newsletters so that it might help others too.
PLANNING MONTHLY EVENTS
One quick one that has come up in the past all too often is Queens saying they are tired of having to do everything and plan everything.
My chapter, and many others, have a calendar and every member must sign up for a month. They are then in charge of that month's activity. They plan it, send a notice and take the RSVP's and make any necessary arrangements. If they are unable to do so in their month, they must make arrangements to trade months with another members. This takes so much pressure of the Queen and gets everyone involved and often brings some refreshing new ideas to monthly events.
UNINVITED/WANTED GUESTS
What to do when a member brings a friend to meetings/events?
Perhaps the easiest way is to send an email or letter to all members stating that the chapter "policy" (not rule) is that friends are welcome ONCE and once only. After that they must join (if the chapter is "open" and accepting new members) Non-members are not welcome at member events as it is disrespectful and unfair to members who have paid their membership fee. You might wish to also say that any member who abuses this and brings a non-member more than once, will be removed from the chapter and will no longer be invited to events.
Once is enough for them to meet the members and get a feel for the group and be able to make a decision whether they wish to join or not.
If someone doesn't like your policies (not rules) then perhaps they need to form their own group as apparently, they don't respect you and your members.
I think that by sending this information to ALL members, doesn't mention names and center anyone out and your members will support you because they do play fair and did pay.
Just remember it's all about having fun with a capital "F". |
| POSTING PHOTOS ON THE WEB SITE
The lawyer for the Crown Jewels of Canada Society has informed us that photos posted on the web site must only be of CJCS members and not members of any other group such as Sweet Potatoe Queens, Blue Thong Society, Red Hat Society, etc. This is a Crown Jewels of Canada Society web site.
It has been brought to our attention that some photos are of gatherings of other groups. These photos will be removed. We ask your cooperation please as this is a legal issue.
We are proud to be members of the Crown Jewels Society of Canada! As such, we dress in our colours of red white and purple. Please comply. Thank you.

| THANK YOU
... For your support in the Crown Jewels and believing in this dream. Now that we are "official" the dream is a reality.
We have far surpassed our original expectations and membership numbers are growing daily. We are now a strong force within Canada with members in almost every province and more requests for information and members joining, daily.
We have welcomed a new Provincial Representative in Nova Scotia, Queen Linda (Linda Cummings) and as a result are now gaining new members in Nova Scotia.
May 2010 be a very good year!
