Inductees named for Legacy Hall
LMISD Foundation names five to Class of 2010
La Marque ISD Alumni
   The La Marque ISD Education Foundation has selected four inductees for its 2010 Legacy Hall.
  The 2010 inductees include Wharton Rivers( Lincoln, Class of '67), Monica Davis Clay (La Marque, Class of '79), Lee Hutton (La Marque, Class of '94) and Bryan Wilson (La Marque, Class of '97). Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, a recipient of the Foundation's Spirit of Education Award in 2005 and a 1961 La Marque High School Graduate, also will be honored.
   The inductees will be recognized at the Legacy of Champions Distinguished Alumni Celebration, which is designed to recognized La Marque ISD alumni who have excelled in their field of expertise and made significant contributions to their communities.

Alumni donate school supplies for LMISD students

Alumni Update

Matranga works to protects presidents, families
   Michael Matranga has traveled the world protecting presidents and first families as part of his work with the United States Secret Service.
   The 1995 La Marque High School graduate earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University in 2000 and joined the Secret Service since 2004.
   Matranga was one of 12 agents assigned to President Barack Obama from 2007 to 2008. He has served as an advance agent for former presidents George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton; former First Ladies Barbara Bush, Laura Bush, and Hillary Clinton; first-daughters Jenna and Barbara Bush, vice presidents Dick Cheney and Joe Biden, and President Obama. During this time he traveled to more than 44 states, over 150 U.S. cities, and eight foreign countries including Kuwait, Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, Israel, England, France and Germany.

Francois working toward Master's at Harvard
   Former La Marque High School student Willie Francois III is currently engaged in a Master of Divinity program at Harvard University's Divinity School.
   In 2009, Francois graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Morehouse College with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Religion.
   His commitment to the ministry crystallized in 2003, and he was ordained at First Union Baptist Church in Galveston. He is currently a member of Webster Avenue Baptist Church of Houston where he is engaged in two pastoral internships. Francois also holds a similar internship position at the First Corinthian Baptist Church of New York City (Harlem).
Class Reunions

La Marque High School, Class of 1963
   The La Marque High School Class of 1963 will have its 47-year reunion Sept. 25 at the VFW Hall, 11230 State Highway 6, in Hitchcock. Registration starts at 4 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and a dance at 8 p.m.
   The reunion is open to all graduates from 1960-1967. Registration starts at 4 p.m. Tickets are $25.

La Marque High School, Class of 1960
   The La Marque High School Class of 1960 will have its 50-year reunion Oct. 1-2 at Moody Gardens, 7 Hope Blvd., in Galveston.
   Organizers are asking all 1960 graduates to e-mail current information, including mailing address and phone number to Sharon Herbert Steinsland or Charlotte Walton Moore. Alumni may also call 409.763.2059 or 409.948.4634.

La Marque High School, Classes of 1970-1980
   The La Marque High School Classes of 1970-80 will have a "Purrfect Decade" reunion Oct. 8 at Gulf Greyhound Park in La Marque; and Oct. 9 at Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston. Tickets for both days are $85 per person. Visit www.lmhsreunion.org for information.

Lincoln High School, Class of 1960
   The Lincoln High School Class of 1960 is planning a 50-year reunion, which is tentatively scheduled for November. The committee is looking for former classmates to assist.

La Marque High School, Class of 2000

Sports Round-Up
Alumni showing success in the ring, on the field
  
   La Marque's Fred Allen gave the hometown crowd something to cheer about during the Aug. 19 Texas City Showdown boxing event at the Doyle Center.   More

   La Marque grads Logan Hutton, Minnesota, and James Thomas, Oklahoma State, are featured in the EA Sports's "NCAA Football 11" video game. More

   La Marque grad D.J. Johnson made the New York Giants roster as a cornerback.

   La Marque grad James Thomas had a tackle and blocked a kick in Oklahoma State's 65-17 win over Washington State. Thomas also had four tackles in Oklahoma State's 41-38 win over Troy.

   La Marque grad Raphel Guidry had three tackles in Kansas State's 31-22 win over UCLA. Guidry also had a team-high nine tackles in Kansas State's 48-24 win over Missouri State.

   La Marque grad Aundre McGaskey started at right tackle in New Mexico State's 41-21 loss to San Diego State.

   La Marque grad Clarence Ward has signed with the Arena Football League's Dallas Vigilantes. Ward played with University of Texas-El Paso the past two seasons.
