October 5, 2012

Greetings everyone,

We are making great strides in our efforts to protect children online and have a lot to report, so I am going to make my letter to you brief.

First, we now have air dates for the PBS airing of our 3 one hour Internet Safety 101 television shows slated for November 2012. Check it out and spread the word! More to come on this front. We are so excited that parents, teachers and the public in Virginia will see our film series which was reformatted for PBS. If you have PBS connections in your state, please let us know as we want to get our life changing life saving 101 Program on the air in your city.

Second, as we have reported previously, Backpage.com, an online classified ads site, is using its ad space to host listings used for promoting illegal sex trade activities. This week, Village Voice Media (VVM), the parent company of Backpage.com, was acquired, and the new owners, Voice Media Group, immediately cut ties with Backpage.com. I believe that this is certainly a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to bring these untoward practices by Backpage.com to an end.  We encourage you, the public, to keep the heat on this situation with Backpage.com, and further encourage you to contact your respective State Attorneys General to prosecute any illegal activities, of which you become aware, on the part of Backpage.com. Tell them - Enough Is Enough!

Lastly, we cannot do our work without your financial support.  Please, will you consider sending us a gift of any amount? $10, 25, 50, 100 or more. No amount is too small and no amount is too great.  To donate, please click here.

See all of our progress below. Together, we ARE making a difference.

For the sake of the Children,

 What We're Up To:
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month!

National Cyber Security Awareness month is a coordinated national effort focusing on the need for improved online safety and security for all Americans. Because the Internet is a shared resource, protecting it is a shared responsibility. Enough Is Enough (EIE), was instrumental in the development and promotion of a three pronged strategy for Internet safety that involves the public, the technology industry and law enforcement sharing the responsibility to protect children on the Internet. Join us on Facebook and Twitter to learn more.

National Coalition to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation

A fellow member of the coalition, the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers has developed three letters to the editor in response to the upcoming October 9 sentencing for Jerry Sandusky. Please consider sending a letter to your local paper, radio, or TV station.
MeetMe: A Provative App with a Young Following

MeetMe is becoming one of the most popular social media sites for teens. MeetMe lists individuals who are currently using the site, and uses GPS to show their location in real time. In this story, teenager Shelbi and her friend were picked up by an older man and taken to his apartment after a string of sexual messages were sent between them through MeetMe. Luckily, Shelbi's father and area police showed up before the situation took a turn for the worse. Remember the use of Rules 'N Tools could have protected Shelbi from this situation.
