About Obscenity
Obscenity is graphic material that focuses on sex and/or sexual violence. It includes close-ups of graphic sex acts, lewd exhibition of the genitals, and deviant activities such as group sex, bestiality, incest and excretory functions. For clarification, obscenity is not to be confused with soft-core pornography, known under the law as harmful to minors/indecent content, which is legal for adults, but not for minors. Obscenity is always illegal to produce and distribute and is not protected speech for adults or minors. Unfortunately, because obscenity laws have not been enforced, illegal "adult" pornography has flooded and polluted the Internet. It continues to grow and spread and has reached epidemic proportions. About the War on Illegal Pornography
New social science research has emerged linking pornography to sex trafficking, child abuse, domestic violence and divorce. In late 2009, after repeated attempts to influence the Department of Justice to enforce existing obscenity law, a new strategy was proposed. In 2010, a large and broad Coalition of organizations formed that agreed to enlist their members by the thousands and tens of thousands to pressure appropriate Congressional committees and Congressional leaders of each party to instruct the Justice Department and FBI to enforce the obscenity laws. This effort is called the War on Illegal Pornography.
On June 15th, 2010, Enough Is Enough President Donna Rice Hughes joined leading experts to discuss the harms of pornography and what Congress can do to enforce existing laws in a presentation at the U.S. Capitol. Click HERE to read Donna's statement or watch the event online. This event also launched a successful grassroots campaign, which led more than 100 Members of Congress to sign letters urging Attorney General Holder to enforce existing obscenity laws.
We call on all groups to unite in this cause as a Coalition for the War on Illegal Pornography. We call on everyone - families, women's and children's rights advocates, faith-based groups, business leaders, medical personnel, elected officials - to join the Coalition and work together in order to cry out "Enough Is Enough!" and stop the growing amount of hard core pornography available in America!
Thank you for your efforts!
For the sake of the children,
Donna Rice Hughes
