Boy on computer
Dear Friend,

During this season of giving, new gizmos and high-tech gadgets are at the top of many children's holiday wish lists. While so many of us often invest significant time and money on these cool new toys and devices for the youngsters in our lives, it's critical to give an even greater gift as our children engage with their tech-toys this year: the gift of Internet safety.

Take for instance, Barbie Video Girl (on right).  Barbie Video Girl is a doll with a real, working video camera hidden inside her necklace that can be used to create, edit, upload and share videos.  While engaging little girls in video editing sets a solid foundation for future digital engagement, without parental involvement, close supervision and protective Internet Safety 101SM Rules 'N ToolsŪ, this wonderful technology could be used for harm.  The FBI even recently released a statement to its members highlighting how pedophiles and predators could use Barbie Video Girl to create and distribute child pornography.  Of course, this toy could also be used by girls (or boys) to create videos that may put them at risk of being targeted by a cyberbully or an Internet predator.

Bottom line: Technology can be used for great good or it can be misused and abused, creating serious dangers.  Whether it's Video Barbie Girl, Xbox Kinect, Spy Net Voice Changer, or a new iPhone, parents, educators, grandparents and other caring adults must be equipped with the knowledge and resources to protect their children as they engage with these great new devices.

We developed Internet Safety 101SM to do just that.Internet Safety 101SM is a widely acclaimed teaching series that paints a comprehensive picture of online dangers and safety solutions.  For adults who may feel ill-equipped to protect children in their ever-evolving Internet world, Internet Safety 101SM is an invaluable and practical resource.  Firsthand accounts from law enforcement officers, clinicians, victims, parents, kids, industry leaders and a convicted sex offender are woven into this compelling four-part teaching series, accompanying workbook, website and other resources.

Internet Safety 101SM covers the safety basics necessary to educate, equip and empower parents to protect children from pornography, sexual predators and cyberbullies, and to keep kids safe on social networking sites, gaming and mobile devices.
