Celebrating The Women of SIGSCV
By Tora Brown
One of the Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley (SIGSCV) pillars is "Celebrating Women". Today we celebrate one of new members Sheryl Robinson Bagalio. Sheryl is not only new to SIGSCV, she is orginally from upstate New York. One day while shopping on, Sheryl popped into La Via Bella. She struck up a conversation with the owner, Billie Hubbard, who is a member of SIGSCV. Sheryl mentioned that she was new in town and was looking to make some new friends. "It's been hard leaving New York behind with my family and friends all being on the East Coast, but I'm excited to be in California for a new chapter in my life." Billie told her about SIGSCV and said, "I think you would love this group! You should join!" The rest is history. Soroptimist is the perfect organization: "I love meeting cool, fun, interesting women, and I like the fact that I now have some wisdom and experience and can mentor young women," she said. She joined just in time to help with the Wine Affair "It was really fun!" Now she is working on the High Heel-a-thon, the Day of Service Hands on Project: Mending Kids International and starting next month she will be writing the Celebrating the Women of SIGSCV Newsletter article. One of the reasons Sheryl decided to take the job in So. Cal. was to have a more balanced life-allowing her to be with her children. When talking about her sons she said, "I really LIKE them as well as love them. They are great people and I feel very lucky they are in my life. They (Zachary16 and Noah 14) took part in the Cardboard Box City fundraiser to raise money and bring awareness to homeless children and families. Working in Regulatory Affairs for a medical device company, Sheryl is a liaison between the FDA, other international regulatory agencies and her company. The travel involved with her work has afforded her the opportunity to visit many different countries and work with people all around the world, many who have become friends. What you see is what you get with Sheryl -" no pretense!" Kayaking or scuba diving brings her peace. Entertaining brings her joy. She is famous for her cooking and theme gatherings including the toga party party pictured here that was an "absolute blast"!
If someone gave Sheryl 1 million dollars today, no strings attached, she would "pay off every debt I have and make sure my children and my sister's children are set for college. I'd give money to the Epilepsy Foundation of America and to fund research for a cure for my brother-in-law with a rare form of cancer, and my little Methodist church in Monroe, NY. I'd love to set up a scholarship fund for young women." So, now you know a little bit about Sheryl. The next time you see her, say hello and get to know more of her great ideas!
