When the budget cuts are inevitable, the positions and functions eliminated what do you do?
  • How do you ensure that your organization needs will be met?
  • Where do you begin with analyzing how you will fill the gaps?
  • How do you keep morale up?
  • How do you address the questions from some staff about their pay related to additional functions?
  • How do you get teams to work well together, especially when there is confusion, frustration and decreased morale?

Where do you begin?

So often leaders feel very overwhelmed by how they will approach this, what seems like, unending need to "cut back".

JBM takes clients through a methodical, logical approach that covers all areas helping you identify issues that need to be considered before an organization can begin to address and plan for the potential "roadblocks".  JBM assists with identifying issues that will likely arise, how to approach them and how to identify and fill the gaps that will be left as a result of the functions being "eliminated", culture change and/or other changes that affect the workplace.

At a time like this, expertise is necessary as well as the objectivity and experience to work through the reality of what your organization will " look like" given the inevitable changes. 

Change Management is essential and ongoing through multiple methods such as:
  • Strategic Planning a must..doesn't have to be any fancy plan but rather one that is functional for both short term and long term needs.  
  • Improved Communication methods with staff, up and down chain of command
  •  Getting those that are left in tact to function optimally is critical.  
  • Updated, revised and functional job descriptions need to be in order. 
  •  Performance management a must, identifying tasks, standards expected and then management commitment to handle this critical aspect of a leader's role...if you do not know how well someone is doing, how can you effectively lead the team, identify professional development needs and support the function?
  • Identify the "non performers" or those uninspired to work at the level necessary.
  • Employee engagement and methods to keep employees positive and motivated.  The ones that know the jobs best are the employees themselves..asking for their input is the most thorough, efficient way to get to an end that will work since they are invested in the decision making process.
  • Team building/conflict resolution that is ongoing.. formal training alone will not address the sustained results that are necessary.
