Greetings!

Here we go...Strategy 8 of Eleven HR strategies for 2011- Look for Innovative Approaches (HR magazine;1/2011; RGrossman)

Health insurance is a big deal.  We know that paying more for such benefits is mostly likely.  We have to determine how to manage this monster.  Some businesses are " establishing on site medical clinics run by a vendor where workers and families can receive routine care including diabetes management. Participating employees are rewarded with lower insurance premiums".

Offer those small tokens of kindness, appreciation and support of employee desires.  Richard Floersch, executive vice president and chief human resources officer at McDonald's Corp in Oakbrook, Ill expresses this concept.  The company offered an early closing due to "fantastic weather"!  Responses from their employees were incredible due to the fact that it was unexpected and an incredible gesture to give employees a "surprise" break!

Recognize the diversity in your workforce and their approach to their work.  Offering opportunities to understand different outlooks, different styles of work, and the fact that some are more team oriented than others. Addressing the differences is important.  Learn how to get employees to appreciate one another and work well in groups.  Differences such as age create significant issues with the age gap and difference in work styles.  Knowing that, offering more opportunities for such individuals to work together and mentor one another is important.  Stressing that all need to have an openness to the value of each of the styles, is important.

Consider other work models.  Outsourcing, many use now, proves to be very effective for many different professional tasks that require specific experience levels.  Many administrative types of roles such as IT, payroll, marketing, social media, human resources, benefit administration etc are among those areas that are easily and commonly outsourced.

My entire consulting practice is based on "outsourcing" HR functions.   There is a tremendous need and tremendous value for my clients both in quality and cost effectiveness.  Assistance with process review, effective coaching, proper staffing, compliance, employee relations,  performance management, holding effective meetings etc, are among some of the services that my clients benefit from.

According to 2010 Global Worforce Study, respondents of over 20,000 full time employees from around the world...here are the TOP REASONS EMPLOYEES CHOOSE TO LEAVE ORGANIZATIONS
1.  Increased base pay
2.  Greater career advancement opportunity
3.  Improve work/life balance
4.  More flexible work location
5.  Greater job security

As you can see, all of the newsletters to date, highlighted different approaches to your employees that are extremely important to avoid losing talent and promising candidates.

We have three more strategies to go...watch for Strategy 9, next month!

All the best always,
