CLIENT STORY...
One of my clients that I have been working with for the past several years, has implemented an approach that is proving not only to be highly effective but culture changing. This environment was such that there were significant conflicts between and among co workers, less than desired "trust" in management and broken communication channels as well as significant redundancies and inconsistencies in the work. T'his was an example of working hard and NOT smart. This organization knew that and also "knew what they didn't know" or have time for and engaged my services.
A success story it is! The approach we use is to have multiple "mini strategic plans" that all fit together. Each separate unit works with me to create a mission, goals, action steps, time lines and measurements. Being the one who has done all 70 plans, I ensure that they fit together and all pieces of the puzzle are there, so that there is optimal "teamwork", improved communications and we do a great deal of conflict resolution. This is working beautifully. Many changes were implemented as a result of such plans. Senior management uses such plans to build their "administrative unit plan" and carefully assess their meeting and supporting the goals of their individual units.
This approach allows employees to be involved in all aspects of their specific functions and even making them more prepared to "call the shots" without seeking supervisor help as often.
What a rewarding project for me and what great results for this organization. They continually lose funding and have to reduce staff yet we are able to work things in that make the job bearable...talk about working smart!!!
Some of the Significant results of this work are:
- Improved Communication at all levels
- Trust in management, feeling of fairness and respect
- Employee empowerment and "ownership"
- Improved work efficiencies and processes
- Significant numbers of conflict resolutions
- Improved employee attitudes
- Training as needed
This organization is a public/government agency with over 400 employees! We continue to keep this work going to ensure no lapses in the good that has been accomplished and every two years the plans are updated. The management staff use the individual unit plans as a point of measuring their successes by reviewing them monthly. This is a great example of "best practices" for any type of organization! |
