Greetings!

Determining and following the path to success is determined by your motivation and effective leadership traits.  Let's take a look at some helpful hints that define effective leaders.
 
Rudy Guiliani (former Mayor of NYC) expresses what I most relate to in describing effective leaders ... I wanted to share it with all of you..
 
Effective Leaders
:
 
1. Have Strong Beliefs and stick to their beliefs.
2. Show Optimism/strong problem solvers.  The power of optimism is strong, gives hope, provides a chance.  Take a bad situation and learn from it, turn challenges into successes!
3.  Have Courage!  Without taking risks we don't gain courage.
4.  Prepare relentlessly.  Ensure that prior to making any presentations or providing final output there is tremendous detail, review and thought in to your work.
5.  Teamwork!  Often overused but needs to be a focus.  Leaders need to realize that others are more important than they are ultimately.  Review your weaknesses and surround yourself with those that fill in the gaps and compliment your skills.
6.  Communication...Communication...Communication
 7.  Love People!!!  I say this all of the time...relationships matter...keep that as your focus..to quote Rudy "It is more important to go to a funeral than a wedding...at funerals is when people need you most!"
 
I think it is important to remind us of what was mentioned above and to note that being who you are is important in your workplace.  We have found that political correctness often isn't working like many thought it should have.  It is stifling people from sharing opinions and ideas, it is impeding relationship building since so many "fear" they will do the wrong thing and it simply creates more of a divide...completely the opposite of what people need and what  motivates them in the workplace.  Keep to who you are, be professional, be fair, be honest and ethical and love people..the rest will fall into place!
Train, Train, Train....both through coaching one on one as well as more formal sessions.  JBM has informative webinars on leadership that could help you determine where you might need improve on your own or to assist you in assessing your subordinates who are leaders.
