CVB On The Go
The CVB staff has been busy traveling the last few weeks to promote Berkeley County and our events!
Our first stop was the West Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association Hospitality University at the Greenbrier in Lewisburg, WV. The weekend consisted of panel discussions and the Cast Iron Cook-Off. One of the highlights was listening Richard Smucker, the Executive Chairman and Co-CEO of Smucker's, discussing how culture is the most important part of your company or organization.
The next stop on our whirlwind tour was the SPBGMA Convention in Nashville, TN. (SPBGMA stands for Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America) Our exhibit was located close to the Gibson Guitar display, which created a nice traffic flow past our booth. We made some great contacts while there and got to enjoy not one, but TWO showcases from Darrell Webb Band, one of our 2011 Pickin' performers.
Our final destination was Charleston at the State Capitol for Tourism Day. Located on the second floor of the Rotunda, our booth had great foot traffic and we made many important connections at this event.
Despite long hours in the car, this quick tour of the mid-Atlantic was important to our mission of advancing the awareness of our area's resources and special events. |
Pickin' Preview
Get a taste of the 2011 Pickin' in the Panhandle lineup on March 5, as the Eastern Panhandle Bluegrass Association (EPBA) presents the Pickin' Preview. The concert will feature local favorites Circa Blue and Back Creek Valley Boys, and IBMA nominated and SPBGMA award-winning group Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice. Their song "Train Without a Track" was awarded Song of the Year by SPBGMA earlier this week.
The Pickin' Preview will be held at the Apollo Civic Theatre at 128 East Martin Street in downtown Martinsburg. Doors will open at 6 pm, with music beginning at 6:30. Tickets are available online or at the CVB office for $10 in advance ($15 at the door). Seating is limited. Concessions will be available for an additional fee. This event benefits the EPBA and the Apollo Theatre.
We'll be announcing our full 2011 Pickin' lineup next week, so be on the lookout! |
