 Greetings!
The dog days of summer are
here! With temperatures in the mid-90's it's especially important to stay
well hydrated. Did you know???
· 75% of Americans are
chronically dehydrated.
· Thirst is often mistaken
for hunger.
· Even MILD dehydration will
slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
· One glass of water will
shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of
the dieters studied in a
U-Washington study.
· Lack of water is the #1
trigger of daytime fatigue.
· Preliminary research
indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back
and joint pain for up to 80% of
sufferers.
· A mere 2% drop in body
water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic
math, and difficulty focusing
on the computer screen or on a printed page.
· Drinking just five eight
ounce glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by
45%, plus it can slash the risk
of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to
develop
bladder cancer.
Think water is boring? Jazz it up with fresh cucumber slices, berries,
citrus wedges or mint leaves, try fizzy mineral water, and have fun by drinking
it out of a funky or fancy glass.
Drink up and Stay Cool,

energized and intentional life. I work with my clients to help them create
balanced, healthy lives in a way that is flexible, fun and free of denial and
deprivation. By working together, we can discover the food and lifestyle
choices that best support you. Making gradual, lifelong changes enable you to
reach and sustain your current and future health goals. CLIENT TESTIMONIALS: "Thanks, Aundrea. The wellness program was a success for me
as it transformed many long-standing intentions into actual positive changes. Over the course of three months, I very
naturally displaced processed foods from my diet, replaced them with whole
foods and opened my mind to a world of possibilities. I've
re-learned the wisdom of choosing organic and now understand more than just the
basics of where to shop organic and how to prepare healthy, energizing meals
for every day of the week." - Mackenzie Alpert

"My
sessions with Aundrea have changed my life in several ways. Her knowledge and guidance regarding
healthy eating have made it fun to make changes in my eating habits and she
always has some great preparation ideas.
My diet now contains more fruits, vegetables, and WATER. Along with exercise, those changes have
increased my activity level, improved my sleeping habits, and diminished some
aches and pains that I thought were going to be with me forever. Additionally, Aundrea's positive
attitude and support have helped to increase my self-confidence and have led me
to make changes in my personal life, as well. She's great!" - Lu Ann Driscoll

Snack Attack
There's
no denying that everyone, at one time or another, has had a snack attack. Views
on snacking differ. Some of us feel that snacking is bad and that eating
between meals leads to weight gain. Others believe that eating many small meals
and snacks throughout the day is healthy for maintaining energy levels and
optimal weight. If there were one way of snacking that was right for everyone,
we would all be doing it! To
alleviate snack attack guilt, try to understand why you are snacking and what
snacks work best for your body. Perhaps you snack because your daily diet is
missing nutrition, or because you are eating too little at meals. You might be
snacking to soothe jangled nerves when you are emotional, or to entertain
yourself when you are bored. Whatever your reason, acknowledge it and start
thinking about how to create a life that is nourishing and truly satisfying. Although
snacks are no substitute for loving your life, they can be great energy
boosters. Many convenient snack foods are highly processed and full of
chemicals, additives, damaging fats and refined sugars. When a snack attack
hits you, try foods that are filling and satisfying, but also nutritious. Snack on things that don't come in a plastic wrapper or a
box, like fresh fruit, leftover vegetables or rice cakes with almond
butter and fruit spread. Make your own signature trail mix, organic hot
chocolate made with almond milk sweetened with agave nectar, or blue corn chips
with hummus. You
can also try "upgrading.' If you are craving something crunchy, upgrade from
potato chips to raw carrots, apples or whole grain crackers; if you are craving
a candy bar, upgrade to a handful of nuts and dried fruit; instead of a cup of
coffee, upgrade to green tea; instead of ice cream, upgrade to applesauce with
cinnamon. Upgraded snacks are high in nutrition and give you a greater sense of
satiety and satisfaction; you won't feel physically or psychologically
deprived, and you'll have plenty of energy to sustain your activities for
hours. Snacking
is enjoyable and there is a wide variety of healthful
goodies for whatever you're craving, be
it sweet, crunchy, salty, creamy or spicy. Dive in, be creative and enjoy your
snack attack.

YOU'RE INVITED! to discuss the ground-breaking book Women, Food and God in a two-part workshop
Women, Food and God: An Unexpected Path to Everything
The way you eat is
inseparable from your core beliefs about being alive. No matter how
sophisticated or wise or enlightened you believe you are, how you eat tells
all. The world is on your plate. When you begin to understand what prompts you
to use food as a way to numb or distract yourself, the process takes you deeper
into realms of spirit and to the bright center of your own life. Rather than
getting rid of or instantly changing your conflicted relationship with food,
Women Food and God is about welcoming what is already here, and contacting the
part of yourself that is already whole-divinity itself.
Let's dive deeper into the eye-opening concepts Geneen Roth shares through candid group discussion and camaraderie. The

Food Focus: Fruit
A healthy lifestyle is the key to
longevity, optimum weight, abundant energy and balance. By using fruit to
satisfy our taste for sweetness, we can leave behind the use of chemical,
processed and refined sweeteners. Fruits are easy to digest, are cleansing and
cooling and are great for those who are overstressed and overheated from
excessive mental strain or hot climates. Fruits are filled with fiber and liver
stimulants, which act as natural, gentle laxatives. Whenever possible, buy
fresh, locally grown fruit as opposed to imported fruits shipped from far-off
places. This keeps you eating in season, and more in harmony with your
environment and climate. Eating raw fruit in summer months is
highly cooling, while baking it in the winter months neutralizes the cooling
effect. Fruit in the form of juice is a great choice for cleansing the body,
but be aware that juice rapidly raises blood sugar levels, leading to an energy
crash soon after. Frozen, whole, puréed or juiced fruit can make great
summertime cool-down treats. Try frozen grapes, banana-coconut smoothie
popsicles or lime juice ice-cubes in iced tea! Whether you are having fresh fruit
for a light early morning breakfast, a midday snack or evening treat, enjoy
nature's sweetness and whenever possible buy organic. Here are a few summer
fruits and their health benefits: Apricots: Great for
lung conditions and asthma; used to help treat anemia due to their high copper
and cobalt content.
Bananas: Help to
lubricate the intestines, treat ulcers, detoxify the body and manage sugar
cravings; are rich in potassium (which helps hypertension).
Cherries: Slightly
warming in nature; increase overall body energy, remedy arthritis and
rheumatism and are rich in iron, which improves the blood.
Grapefruits: Treat poor
digestion, increase appetite during pregnancy, alleviate intestinal gas and
reduce mucus conditions of the lungs.
Papayas: Tone the
stomach, act as digestive aid, moisten the lungs and alleviate coughing;
contain carpaine, an anti-tumor compound.
Raspberries: Benefit the liver and kidneys, cleanse
blood of toxins, regulate menstrual cycles, treat anemia and can promote labor
at childbirth.

 About Me
After more than 16 years in corporate Change Management, I decided
to follow my passion to help others more directly. A vegetarian since the age
of 14 (and a Southern vegetarian at that!), I've been an advocate of conscious
living for some time. Delving more deeply into nutrition seemed natural and an
ideal way to help others, especially given the current health crisis that is
creating so much inconvenience and pain. As the late astronomer and educator
Carl Sagan said, "we are made of star stuff." Literally, we are
organic beings made from the same elements that make up the universe and to
regenerate we need organic materials. We need to eat foods our bodies
recognize. We are doing ourselves a great disservice by consuming all of the
artificial, synthetic junk-food made available to us by desensitized,
profit-hungry corporations. There is a time and place for packaged food and
pharmaceutical drugs, but they should be last resorts - not how we live on a
daily basis. Our bodies can heal themselves when given adequate amounts of
organic vitamins and minerals. These essential
elements are best assimilated through whole foods rather than synthetic
versions. I look forward to sharing ways to live healthier lives through these
newsletters and my counseling services. I received my certification to practice Health Counseling at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, have completed the Food As Medicine course through The Center For Mind/Body Medicine, and graduated from the Natural Kitchen Cooking School as a
Natural Foods Chef. I am also a certified personal trainer and
incorporate exercise into my counseling services. Come join our running group
in Myers Park every Mon/Wed/Fri morning at 6:30 a.m. Beginners are
welcome! Contact me for details. I offer a complimentary one-hour health consultation. If you or
someone you know needs support, I'd love to hear from you to see how I can
help. Just complete the confidential Health History form located in the bottom
right-hand corner of my website and we'll meet to discuss your
specific health goals. Sincerely, Aundrea Tucker, CHC Certified Health Counselor Pure Potential Wellness, LLC
