Welcome to this edition of our Columbus County Community Farmers Market E-newsletter.
Getting Ready for Back-to-School!
Columbus County Community Farmers Market will hold Kid's Back-to-School Fun Day on Saturday, August 15, from 8:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. Admission is free. The event will include children's games, activities and prizes, free school supplies, free health screenings, and much more for the entire family. All prizes and giveaways are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
"Summer vacation will soon be over and that means it's time for back-to-school," said Carol Shuman, event coordinator. "For the second year, the Farmers Market is hosting a fun event for school age children and their families as they get ready for a new school year. We hope everyone will come and participate."

The Columbus County Farmers Market is open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 7:00 AM until 12:00 Noon with a large variety of farm fresh products.
There should be a good variety of locally grown, farm fresh fruits and vegetables including blackberries, blueberries, peaches, plums, cantaloupes, watermelons, beets, broccoli, butterbeans, cabbage, carrots, collards, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, okra, peas, scallions, squash, zucchini, sweet onions, mustard greens, turnips, radishes, rutabagas, potatoes, peppers, sweet corn, tomatoes, eggs, pecans, herbs, gourd crafts, handcrafted jewelry, jams, jellies, pickles, honey, honey soaps, baked goods, fresh cut flowers, and more! Fresh Peach Cobbler
Our locally grown peaches seem especially good and flavorful this year. Stop by the Columbus County Community Farmers Market this week and pick up some locally grown, fresh peaches this week and enjoy this Fresh Peach Cobbler recipe from Taste of Home magazine. Great dessert topped with vanilla ice cream!

Prep: 10 min. Bake: 45 min.
Yield
8 servings
Ingredients
2 large fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
1-1/2 cups sugar, divided
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Dash ground nutmeg
3/4 cup milk
Directions
In a bowl, combine peaches and 3/4 cup sugar; set aside. Pour butter into an 8-in. square baking pan. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and remaining sugar; stir in milk just until combined. Pour over butter. Top with the peaches. Bake at 375° for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.

The Columbus County Farmers Community Market is located at 132 Government Complex Road in Whiteville, North Carolina near the Department of Social Services. Normal hours of operation are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from 7:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. The Market features farmer-grown, farmer-sold products. Member's farms are visited periodically to assure that all items sold are locally grown by the seller and are of the highest quality.
