 The popularity of farmer's markets continues to grow around the country and lots of national organizations are doing their part to recognize and promote the importance of local food! As a result, the Columbus County Community Farmers Market is participating in two national contests!

The Columbus County Farmers Market is open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 7:00 AM until 12:00 Noon with a large variety of farm fresh products.
There should be a good variety of locally grown, farm fresh fruits and vegetables including blackberries, blueberries, cantaloupes, melons, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, eggplant, scallions, squash, zucchini, sweet onions, mustard greens, turnips, kale, radishes, rutabagas, kale, new potatoes, peppers, sweet corn, tomatoes, eggs, pecans, herbs, gourd crafts, handcrafted jewelry, jams, jellies, pickles, honey, honey soaps, baked goods and more!  Summer has officially arrived and so has the 2009 sweet corn crop. Enjoy this sweet, buttery bounty on the grill with this simple and easy recipe from Taste of Home magazine.
Prep: 20 min. + soaking;
Grill: 25 min.
Yield

Ingredients
8 medium ears fresh sweet corn
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 tablespoons minced fresh basil
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
1/2 teaspoon salt Directions
Soak corn in cold water for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the butter, basil, parsley and salt. Carefully peel back corn husks to within 1 inch of bottom; remove silk. Spread butter mixture over corn. Rewrap corn in husks and secure with kitchen string. Grill corn, covered, over medium heat for 25-30 minutes or until tender, turning occasionally. Cut strings and peel back husks. Nutritional Information

The Columbus County Farmers Community Market is located at 132 Government Complex Road in Whiteville, North Carolina near the Department of Social Services. Normal hours of operation are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, from 7:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. The Market features farmer-grown, farmer-sold products. Member's farms are visited periodically to assure that all items sold are locally grown by the seller and are of the highest quality.
