The photo above is courtesy of Colonel Harry Cynkus of Georgia.  Col. Cynkus and his guests attended the Kentucky Colonels Derby Extravaganza and then brightened our day on the Tuesday following with this testimonial: "I took the opportunity to attend this year's Derby and it exceeded my highest expectations.  What a wonderful time, wonderful people, just an all around great experience."  Colonel Cynkus also passed along a special recipe concocted for the Derby by his daughter Risa.  It is for Mint Julep Cupcakes with Mint Julep Frosting.  If the photo looks as appetizing to you as it did to us, the recipes are on Risa's web site which can be found here.

One Per Address

If you share your email address with another person in your household or office and if that individual is also a Colonel then he or she does not receive routine emails from us.   The reason is the program we use to distribute email will only accept an address one time even though it may be assigned to a different name.
One Per Address (Part 2)

As we implied in the story above, a household may have more than one Colonel.  We have been working to identify those households or addresses in our data base.  When multiple addresses are discovered, they are "linked".  Our plan is to attempt to eliminate multiple mailings to the same address.  For instance, last month we mailed invitations to Kentucky Colonels Day on Millionaire's Row and by using the "link" information, only one copy was sent to each household.
Why Do I Get Email AND USPS Mail

We don't collect any sort of personal information on you when you read our email but we do, for the most part, get a report that you at least look at the email.  Hidden somewhere on this page is a single pixel (dot) formatted as a picture.  When you open the email, a message is sent to us by the "dot" saying that you did so.  However if your email program is set up to not download pictures then no message is transmitted.  When we have a message for a lot of people, we send it by email several days ahead of the USPS mail.  When the USPS mail list is put together, we eliminate the names of the Colonels whose "dot" reported in.  We save a lot of postage money this way but the system is not fool proof.

We love hearing from Colonels around the world... Colonel Matt Dittalo of Illinois sent us a nice note and the photo on the left...

"I wanted to share the attached photo of Kentucky Colonels present at my

wedding in Chicago. In total, 26 Kentucky Colonels were assembled including the longest serving member of the Chicago City Council in its history, Col. Edward M. Burke. All Colonels in attendance at the wedding were asked to pose for this photo while nearly 300

guests enjoyed a rousing version of My Old Kentucky Home."

(The groom is third from left in the front row... Colonel Burke is fifth from the left.  He has been on the Chicago Council since the early 1980's.)

Another Oops!

Our apologies to those of you in Pittsburgh, PA.  We left off the "h" in mentioning the city in last month's issue.

Toronto Encampment

Colonels in the Toronto area are getting together on June 9 to "celebrate" the beginning of the War of 1812.  Historian Col. John-Allen Price will discuss the participation of Kentuckians in the war.  That involvement led to the commission of the first Kentucky Colonel.
