Colonel :

A blizzard is racing through the plains this weekend, but here in Kentucky some of the daffodils are blooming.  We hope they aren't confused!  At Headquarters, it is a busy period.  We are already making plans for Kentucky Colonels Day on Millionaire's Row, wrapping up plans for the Kentucky Derby (see story below) and, most importantly, responding to a flood of requests concerning 2012 Good Works Program Grant Applications.  By the way, the Millionaire's Row dates for this year will be November 9 & 10.  Last year, Colonels from over 30 states plus 3 other nations attended.

The Kentucky Colonels web site had visitors from 6,350 cities and towns last year.  The visitors represented 130 countries. And, somewhat surprising to us, at the end of the year 15% of the visits were made through mobile devices such as the iphone.

Our plans for this year include a general update of the site and, we would like to have your input.  In a few weeks we will give you the opportunity to fill out an on-line survey. In the meantime, if you have a comment or suggestion for the site, please email Ambassador Glen at ambassador@kycolonels.org.

Last Call - 2012 Kentucky Derby Tickets

Hat 2

As we dispatch this newsletter, only 94 tickets remain available for this year's Kentucky Colonels Derby Extravaganza.  The date is May 5.  We have about 50 tickets left for the Kentucky Oaks (held the day before the Derby).  Details of the two events can be found  ON THIS PAGE of the Honorable Order's web site.  If you misplaced your ticket reservation form, please contact Headquarters.  This link  will take you to the on line ticket order page.  The photo is just one of the thousands of colorful hats worn at last year's Derby.

Your Good Works Program Donations at Work

Chrysalis House is a residential substance abuse treatment program for women and their children. The children who accompany their mothers to Chrysalis House often come with few resources until their mothers become stabilized and gain employment. Jody and her baby sister are prime examples. Jody was six years old when she reunited with her mom at Chrysalis House in October 2010. Winter was approaching and the warmest thing she had to wear was a sweatshirt. With funding from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, Chrysalis House staff took Jody shopping for a new winter coat with matching gloves, scarf, and hat. She chose a warm down coat in her favorite color - purple. Jody's new baby sister, Olivia, also benefitted from Kentucky Colonels assistance. Olivia was born drug-free at Chrysalis House in December of 2010. With Kentucky Colonels funding, Chrysalis House provided a car seat for Olivia and enough diapers and wipes until her mother could afford to provide them herself. Today, Jody and Olivia's mom remains sober with a full-time job and is now living in her own apartment with her daughters.
