Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels

Pomperoser

Colonel :

The term "warm greetings" has certainly taken on a new meaning this summer, hasn't it?  Here at Headquarters, we are spending the summer getting ready for the fall.  The 2012 membership cards are already being printed; the Pomperoser and 2012 Emporium catalog are currently being put together.  The Emporium, by the way, is working on clearing the shelves to allow for a bunch of new items.  That means the annual "Attic Sale" is coming up. The September edition of this e-letter will formally announce the sale and feature several of the available items.

Success Story

"I am very grateful for the things I was given, now my kids don't have to fight over who gets the bed that night."

The single mother of five was in a homeless shelter when she contacted the Center for Independent Living Options. The center assisted her in obtaining housing and provided her with dressers, and a bunk bed. She is currently working full-time in a daycare center and is on track to be promoted to a supervisory position. In addition, she will soon be completing a Childcare Certification program that will help her with continued advancement.

Your Good Works Program contributions provided the funding for the dressers and bunk bed.  We are working with Independent Living and several other organizations to get as many people as possible back on their feet and into the workplace.

Missouri OKs Auto Plate

The State of Missouri is the second to approve a special Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels vehicle license plate.  We are working on the administrative details and on collecting the necessary 200 applications for the plate.  When that is finished, Missouri-based Kentucky Colonels will be able to obtain the plate.  The drawing
below is what we submitted to the Missouri Department of Revenue which must approve the plates appearance. It is very similar to the Kentucky version. license plate
Our thanks to Missouri State Representative Colonel David Day for being our legislative sponsor for the project.  He guided it through the system in a little over a year.  That may seem like a long time but the process in Kentucky took much longer.  Virginia is our next "target" state.  There will be others; however, we know we will not be able to add all states to the program.  Requirements for special plates vary considerably.  Some require the organization to be headquartered in the state. In some states we will be prohibited by the high number of individuals that must purchase the plate.

Flying the Colors!

flag

Last month we shared a photo

of the Kentucky Colonel flag

flying over a harbor in Florida.

This month it is in the Himalayan

mountains!  Our "climbing

Colonel", Dan Fisk of Georgia,

along with his wife and good

friend Bob, trekked up Kala

Pattar (about 1,000 feet above Mt. Everest base camp) at around 18,500 feet. The darkest mountain in the picture, about center, is Mt. Everest.  The Colonels in the photo, from left to right, are Dan Fisk, Wendy A. Rogers and Robert W. Lewis.   Colonels Dan

and Wendy have also been

to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa.

Magic Wallet

wallet

Place cash and other items inside this leather, slim line wallet, close, open from the other side and "magically" the items are secured by the elastic bands.  On the outside there are three slots for credit cards and a window for your ID.  The credit card side is embossed with the Colonel logo.  This is a web only special from the Emporium   and the price is also magical... just $17 including P & H.

The Magic Wallet can be found on this Emporium page.
