Oops!old colonel

We didn't mean to but last month we left the impression with some folks that we have some of the 1978 whiskey decanters for sale.  We apologize.  The story was simply intended as a bit of history.  WE DO

HAVE some of the prints that accompanied the decanter.  AND THEY ARE NOW for sale.  A scan of the print is below.  It measures 10 in. by 17 in.  The artist was Terrell Dickey.  The price is $8 including P & H.  The print is listed on the New Items page on the Emporium web site.

Care
Colonel :

Some folks rely on a groundhog but here in Kentucky we judge the arrival of spring by two major events.  And, spring is near because in just 6 weeks the Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament begins and it is less than 14 weeks until the 2011 Kentucky Derby.   Speaking of the Derby, we have about 40 Extravaganza tickets remaining.  They are available to active members of the Honorable Order.  If you are interested, email  members@kycolonels.org or telephone 502-266-6114.
Questions (and answers)

Last week we "surveyed" some 2,000 members asking for input on possible new products for the EMPORIUM.  There was also an open-end question allowing for comments and suggestions.  There were a lot of them!  Here's a stab at answering some of the questions (comments) asked most:

COMMENT: "I've always thought your shipping charges were a little high."  That is the most common "complaint" we hear.  Here are the cold facts:  Our 2010 audit hasn't been completed but for 2009 the

Emporium collected $32,528 for Postage and Handling.  The actual cost of shipping the orders was $32,298.  The "excess" of $230 was about a nickel per shipment. No overhead is applied, the cost is simply that of postage/freight and the containers.

COMMENT: "Bring back the Dress Navy & Dress White Cap."  We would love to.  However those caps are no longer manufactured.

COMMENT: "I am kicking myself for not buying a BB gun when they were available.  Will those ever be available again????" Maybe.  No promises but we are working on it.

COMMENT: "I would like to see the stoneware Kentucky Colonel mug for sell again."  So would we!  Each of those mugs was

hand painted and then put through a "firing" process that made the surface permanent.  The manufacturer stopped making them because of quality problems they said they couldn't overcome.

COMMENT:  "Thanks for this survey!  I would like to see some items geared toward female Colonels!"  Another very common complaint or suggestion.  To be honest, we're not exactly sure what is meant.  Most of the products are uni-sex.  We're happy to look at specific items that would have general appeal.

COMMENT: "A very good item that would be quickly sold out would be a limited edition bottle of bourbon from Kentucky."  Unfortunately the various laws regulating the sale and shipment of alcoholic beverages won't allow us to make such an offer.

COMMENT: "Some of us Colonels are bigger than others please have more XXXL items."  We hear you and we'll give some attention to the sizing issue in the future.

COMMENT:  "The EMPORIUM has always carried very classy and high

high quality items. Kudos to your curators, they have done a wonderful job."  OK, we used that comment because we like a pat on the back as much as anyone.  We were pleased that so many folks made similar comments.  Thank you.

Want to see the products from the survey?

It dawned on us while we prepared the questions and answers above that you might want to see the survey for yourself, if you haven't already.  So, here's your chance.  There are 11 different product possibilities.  It takes about 2 minutes to finish the survey and there is a nice little surprise at the conclusion.  Click here to go to the SURVEY PAGE.
