Col. Cronauer to be Grand Marshall

"We're just tickled to death,"  the local Chamber of Commerce president is quoted as saying in the Elizabethtown, KY newspaper.  "Tickled" after Kentucky Colonel Adrian Cronauer of Virginia said "I'm more than happy to be able to contribute" to the August 28th "Heartland Festival and Salute to Vietnam Veterans".  He will be Grand Marshall of the parade and then take part in a recreation of the radio program that was the basis for the Robin Williams movie "Good Morning Vietnam".  The role Williams portrayed was, in real life, that of Air Force Sgt. Adrian Cronauer who hosted the armed forces radio program "Dawn Buster". Even though Col. Cronauer co-wrote the movie script he has been quoted as saying the movie was "fictional" and that if he had acted in real life as he was portrayed in the film, he still would be serving time in the military penitentiary at Fort Leavenworth.  Headquarters is pleased to have played a small part in helping secure Col. Cronauer's participation in the event.  Organizers didn't know how to locate him but they had heard he is a Kentucky Colonel and called us for help.  Col. Cronauer received his Commission in 1994 and has been a great supporter of the Good Works Program ever since. He is a retired attorney.

Auto Reply

Each email we distribute from Colonel Hdq. usually gets several automatic responses from folks who are "out of the office" or "on vacation".  The best one we've gotten so far was from Colonel John Brown of West Virginia:  "Sorry, I am in Egypt riding a camel.  Computer is taking a break too."
Millionaire's Row - 2010

The map shows the states that will be represented at "Kentucky Colonels Day on Millionaire's Row" in November.  In addition to Colonels from the 30 states shown in yellow, Washington DC, Toronto, Canada and Scotland will be represented.

Thank you for remembering the Good Works Program in your charitable giving.

Colonel :

It is always fun to hear from Colonels who have interesting experiences.  A couple of recent communications have involved photos of critters and we thought you might enjoy seeing them as well.  Here's what we will call our summer "fun" issue of the Pomperoser.
Colonel "Critters"

The first photo is from Col. AL Beschman of Kentucky.  He wrote: "Our neighbor's guinea hen, who roams our two acres, noticed my KY Colonel license plate on my truck.  She was so drawn to it that I think she would like to be a Kentucky Colonel. HA, HA. I thought you might get a kick out of this picture."

And, from Colonel Michael Eversole, also of Kentucky, a photo of he and Stanley.  Stanley is blind.  Colonel Mike adopted him as a baby some 9 years ago.

"Colonel" Omar Bradley

We continue our "series" featuring items from Headquarters Archives with an item that is among our most prized.  A letter written in 1969 to then Governor Louie Nunn:

Bradley Letter

As noted, the letter was written by the last of the 5 star generals upon his commission as a Kentucky Colonel.  (General Bradley was also the first Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.) One of the reasons we prize the letter is way it was signed:

The letter on the wall in the lobby of Hdq. is a copy.  The original is in the Kentucky Colonel Collection at the Kentucky Historical Society.
