Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels |

|
Notes -
UK Brigade - Colonel Notholt reports from London:"The UK Brigade of Kentucky Colonels enjoyed a successful
inaugural event on April 16, with Colonels attending from all
parts of the UK. Messages of support were received from as far
afield as San Francisco, Australia, and, of course, Kentucky. The room was
packed and we shall have to hire a bigger one next time. (It was, admittedly, a very small room.)" Cols. Ian Tough, Stephen Nimmons & Jack Patrick at UK gathering.
Aussie Brigade? Inspired by the success of the UK Brigade, Colonel Stephen Michael Szabo is interested in exploring the
possibility of establishing a similar group in Australia in order to hold
social gatherings of Kentucky Colonels and like-minded people. Interested Antipodean Colonels can contact
him via e-mail by clicking here. EDITORS NOTE: "Antipodean" was Col. Szabo's word. Yes, we had to look it up.
USA Clubs - The Good Works Program has received donations this year from these Kentucky Colonel Clubs: Ben Bey Grotto of Parkersburg, WV; Lake Cumberland National Campers & Hikers Assoc.; Achbar Grotto of Columbus, OH and the KY Colonels of North Carolina. Many thanks!

Colonel :
We didn't mean for them to be... but, we have discovered the Honorable Order's telephone numbers are "unlisted". Last year, in an effort to save a few bucks on the phone bill, we changed to a new provider. Apparently the new provider didn't inform AT&T quickly enough and we were dropped from the new Louisville area listings. We're not even included in the "white pages" site on the internet (we did make the "yellow pages"). If you want to make a note, here are our numbers: Headquarters office: 502-266-6114 / Membership office: 502-266-6848 / Emporium: 502-266-6264.

The "PROCESS"
"I recommended a new Colonel, I received and presented the certificate but they haven't gotten their Honorable Order Membership Card. Why?"
Answers for that oft asked question: The process takes awhile. "Awhile" can be 6-8 weeks or so. Here's how it works: We receive a list of new Colonels from the Governor's Office about once a month. The first thing we do is run the list through a post office approved data base to confirm addresses. About 12% of the addresses are rejected as undeliverable. Once the list is confirmed, the names are entered into our data base and we proceed with step two. That step involves determining if we have the name listed as the new Colonel prefers. That is done through a questionnaire mailed to the Colonel. We allow about 2 weeks for response and then proceed to the printing of Membership Cards and other personalized materials. That can add another 2 weeks. When the printing is completed, the new member packet is mailed.

From the Honorable Order's Archives:
Derby Extravaganza attendees seemed to enjoy the display of items from the Colonels' Archives, featured at the HDQs hotel during Derby Week. As a result, we will share some of the items in the newsletter. This month a photo of Colonel Bing Crosby and his Commission. Paramount Pictures distributed the 1935 photo.
Next month we will feature the "Colonel's Toast", written in 1936.
By the way, Colonels from at least 31 states, Italy, Scotland and Sweden attended this year's Derby Extravaganza. Photos can be viewed HERE.

Kentucky Colonels Day on Millionaire's Row
The first one, last year, turned out to be one of the most popular events we've held in many years. Colonels from 29 states (including Hawaii) attended. The date for the 2010 event is Saturday, November 13. Invitations are currently being printed. We will begin issuing them in a few days.
As with all social events sponsored by the Honorable Order this event, offering access to the most exclusive areas of Churchill Downs, is presented as a "thank you" for Good Works Program supporters. While we indeed have an admission price, we do not attempt to make a profit or use the event(s) for fund raising purposes. As a result of that policy and the overwhelming demand for tickets to last year's inaugural Millionaire's Row event, ticket availability this year will be limited to Colonels who supported the Good Works Program with 2009 or 2010 donations.
