Notes -
Col. Peter Graves -
With sadness we report the passing of Col. Graves on March 14, just 4 days from his 84th birthday. Col. Graves was best known for his work on TV's Mission: Impossible. He was a veteran of WWII and commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1976. He was a great supporter of the Good Works Program. (photo by Angela George) Top Question -

Colonel :
Oops! In our last issue, middle names/initials were omitted when names were inserted into the email. We heard from a lot of you. Please be assured we have your full name. But, just to double check, we are including names again (we hope). And, thanks to the 300 plus Colonels who gave us updated address information.

Phantom Towns (?)
Does your city or town exist... in the eyes of the United State Post Office? We frequently hear from Colonels who say "I keep telling you the name of my community but you keep changing it to something else". IT"S NOT US! Every four months, we are required to check our mail list with the USPS. They make corrections based on USPS criteria. For example: Miramar Beach, FL, zip code 32541 may be home to 3,145 people but in the view of the USPS, they live in Destin, FL. Thus, if we submit a Miramar Beach address, it gets changed in that required pass through the USPS data base.

Your $$$ at work
Odds are you don't think of a bright eyed 6 year old when you think of the homeless. The Honorable Order parti cipates in several programs that provide for hungry and, yes, homeless children. One program is called Food For Thought (FFT). It involves giving needy children food items to take home for the weekend. One of the teachers involved in FFT wrote: "one of my first grade girls in the program is homeless. I typically deliver the food bags while the
students are at lunch but sometimes I have to wait until they go to
recess. When this little girl checks her
backpack after lunch and doesn't see the food bag in there she panics because without
it she would go hungry over the weekend." Each food bag includes 2 breakfast items (example: pop-tarts), 2 lunch items (peanut butter sandwich crackers), 2 cans of pasta with meat, 2 juice boxes and 2 cartons of shelf-stable milk. Our participation is made possible by your donations to the Good Works Program.

Trunk Lid Optional

Remember the Henry J? Col. Arthur Bigelow of Kentucky shared this view of his 1952 model with us. The J was built by Kaiser-Frazer with a government loan. The loan required that it sell for less than $1,300. As a result, items such as glove compartments and trunk lids were eliminated from the early versions. Col. Bigelow has made a few changes to the car's original equipment: "I've put a 350 Cu. In. Chevy
motor in it, 700R4 Trans, Mustang II Front Suspension and an S-10 Rear."
