Notes
*Thanks to Col. John Hutchings of Missouri for doing a lot of leg work on the idea of a Colonels' license plate in Missouri. It may be possible. Those of
you in MO -- watch for a related email in the next couple of weeks.
* Uniform update - Col. Stephen Lautens of Ontario, CA and Col. Chris Winkelmann of Missouri are collaborating on making a 2010 version of the 1931 uniform. They promise to keep us up to date.
* Happy Birthday to Col. Ed Wilson of Tennessee - Oct. 29 was his 95th. * Col. Jim Martin of North Carolina reports the Colonel's Club of NC will hold another dinner meeting on Nov. 20. Forty seven Colonels attended the last one. For info, Email Col. Martin.

Colonel :
We haven't gone totally paperless at the Honorable Order... but, with a bit of a "shove" from members, we're certainly moving in that direction. Approximately 65% of the Colonels who ordered tickets for our November 14 Kentucky Colonels Day at Churchill Downs did so using our secure ticket order form on the web. Of the 835 orders processed by the EMPORIUM during October, 46% were placed on the web or by telephone. But, while we've tried to make our web site a one stop location, remember that Headquarters is here 8 AM - 4:30 PM (EST), Monday - Friday to assist you if needed. AND, a human will actually answer the phone.

2010 DERBY TICKETS
The first question about the availability of Derby Tickets for next year came in about 6 weeks ago. Since then, there have been many of them. Yes, we will again have the Kentucky Colonels Derby Extravaganza. And, we have tickets available for the Kentucky Oaks which is held the day before the Derby. Notifications have already gone out to members of the Platinum Service Circle, Five Star Council, General's Honor Guard and General's Staff members. General Membership notifications will go out in early December.

Honor Flight Follow Up
Thanks to all who wrote such nice comments about last month's story on the grant to the Honor Flight Program. Several Colonels had questions about how to sign up a veteran for one of the flights. The answer can be found at this web link.We also found out that several Kentucky Colonels volunteer with the Honor Flight Program. Among them, Col. William Gloye of Indiana who wrote:
"I had the honor of going on an Honor Flight as a Guardian. A truly moving, inspirational trip. I came home exhausted from helping the Vets but it was worth every drop of sweat and ache to serve them."
Colonels Barb and Robert Gahagan of Virginia volunteer as greeters to Vets on Honor Flights landing at the Dulles Airport. Col. Barb wrote that the experience is "one
of the most moving things I have ever done. Never a dry eye at the
airport!" She also points out that there is a need for additional volunteers in the DC area. If you are interested, you can contact Colonel Gahagan by clicking here. |
Christmas shopping tip
If you're thinking of giving a Golden Colonel Air Rifle to someone for Christmas, you might want to get your order in early. Chief A.J.'s adult size BB gun has been the EMPORIUM's surprise hit of the season. The Chief has even had trouble keeping the supply flowing (Swine flu hitting a some key members of his tribe f didn't help). Any personalized item such as the Colonel Calling Cards or Kentucky's Highest Honor print should also be ordered sometime this month. By the way, in addition to the rifles and calling cards, other top sellers this season include the Aide-de-Camp pin, Marble Ironstone Cup, stemless wine glasses and Colonels' Aussie Chiller hats. Speaking of Christmas... make sure you see this month's special offer from the Emporium below.

The Reindeer Story
We've run out of space for this issue... but, next month (which will actually be a more appropriate time) we'll fill you in on the grant given this year for the purchase of 2 reindeer. (Yes, you read that correctly.)
