Jacket Article in Stitch Magazine

Stitch Magazine

A lovely article about the jacket project is in the latest issue of Stitch (Issue 60, August/September 2009), a publication of the Embroiderers' Guild in England.  As you may know, they own the panel which has formed a portion of the embroidery pattern for the project.

Dear Stitcher -

You are receiving this email as you have contributed to the Plimoth Jacket Project as a stitcher/lace maker or you have been supporting the project with your purchase of a sample kit.  As the manager of the project since Dec 2008, I wanted to start a newsletter provide updates on our progress and related outreaches of the project.  Hope you enjoy!

Most Jacket Components are Finished
A Little Embroidery Still to Do
Finished Jacket PiecesIn June we reached a major milestone with the majority of the embroidery finished for the project.  We have a days worth of 'oes' attachment and putting on the detached butterfly wings and pea pods.  While we could have finished it quickly, we have taken the summer to bring the pieces to different groups to try to allow any last folks to have their opportunity to put their stitches in.  One of our last events will be at Hancock Shaker Village on August 15th.  We have gathered a group of young girls and boys who will stitch on the piece.  If you are in the area and want to stop by to see the project and maybe get a few 'oes' in, send me a message to get more info.
Stitching SpanglesWe also finished the lace, hand-woven silk lining, and hooks and eyes.  If you haven't been keeping up on the blog to read about how we made these items, there are over 530 entries now.  Grab a cup of tea and spend an enjoyable afternoon catching up.  Since March 2009, the blog has been hosted at Thistle Threads.  We will be starting the construction phase over the next few weeks.

Tour Guide

Thistle Threads and Hanging by a Thread have been busy collaborating on a tour of England in Fall 2010 to see sites with important collections related to the Plimoth Jacket Project.  Over the course of the project many have asked for such an opportunity to see the embroideries and costumes that have formed the basis for the research.  We are asking you to "save the date" and also give us an indication of interest level so we may finish our dealings with the tour operating company on rates.

The tour dates are September 21, 2010 - October 1, 2010.  Visit the Thistle Threads site to read more about the tour highlights and to register your interest in the tour.
