Chardonnay Name Challenge!
The Chardonnay name challenge continues.
Thank you for all the terrific input. We now have many wonderful names to choose from. We thought we'd let the challenge go a little longer to see if anyone had a last minute brainstorm. This wine won't be ready to bottle until late spring at the earliest, so we do have time.
To participate, just email us (or call us) with your name idea. The main requirement is that the name has to be musical. If possible, alliteration would be nice. Example: Minuet in Merlot, Pizzicato Petite Sirah. If we choose your name (and you are the first one to come up with that name) you get a case of Chardonnay once it is bottled.
Just for fun, we will print all the names you came up with in a future newsletter.
Email:
The challenge is on!! Good luck! Here are some of our beautiful chardonnay grapes, moments before it was crushed. It has been fermenting up a storm in Chicken Little (our concrete egg) and the two Puncheons, which are very large oak barrels. It has been fermenting so much that the bungs are regularly popping off!

RECIPE

Zucchini-agna (like Lasagna but with Zucchini) By: Jordan Curiel Ingredients - 6 Large Zucchini, sliced thin long-ways and lightly grilled
- Olive Oil (2 tbsp)
- Ground Pork, Turkey, or Beef (2 lbs)
- Spinach (1 bunch)
- Bag of Frozen Peas and Carrots
- Marinara Sauce (24 ozs)
- Ricotta Cheese (12 ozs)
- Mozzarella Cheese (shredded; about 3 good handfuls)
- Salt & Pepper (to taste)
- 2 Cloves Garlic
Directions 1. Brown the Meat in a large skillet with a little Olive Oil and the cloves of Garlic, chopped. 2. Once meat is browned lower heat to a simmer, add Salt & Pepper, Spinach, Marinara, and frozen Peas and Carrots. Cover and let simmer. 3. On a stovetop grill or a BBQ, lightly grill Zucchini that has been olive oiled, then layer one level of Zucchini on the bottom of a large casserole dish. 4. Once Meat is finished simmering add a layer to the Zucchini. Then add Ricotta. Not necessary but would make it an accurate Lasagna style dish. 5. Add another layer of Zucchini on top. Then add the rest of the meat sauce with a layer of Mozzarella. 6. You could add another layer of Zucchini here, with some Mozzarella on top, depending on your cheese enthusiasm but it's not necessary. 7. Put dish into a pre-heated 425 oven for 15-20 minutes or until it bubbles. Once finished, let cool and enjoy with a bottle of R&B Cellars 2008 Zydeco Zinfandel. | |

  From the Winemakers Crush 2011
Here we are, mid-October, and we're half way through crush. What a strange season it has been! First, a cold summer put the fruit a few weeks behind schedule. Then, the early rains came to put a "damper" on things. While most of our fruit is crushed and is happily fermenting, we were ever diligent with possible mold - the unhappy result of early rains. We put most of the fruit through the sorting table before crushing just to be on the safe side. Fear not, R&B fans! We'll make good wine this year, but this kind of harvest just makes us work a little harder to get that done!
Next in line: A trip to Hong Kong and China!
We leave November 1 for Hong Kong for a 3-day International Wine & Spirits Fair. Working with our Chinese trading partners from Drunken Dragon, we will be setting up orders with multiple distributors in both Hong Kong and Mainland China.
While in Hong Kong we will visit California Vintages, the wine bar/restaurant on Wyndham Street, of which we are one of the 22 partnered wineries, and do a special R&B Cellars wine
tasting event on November 6th.
On the 7th, we travel to Guangzhou, China for another
international wine trade show. Then on November 11th we will celebrate the grand opening of the Pacific Wharf International Wine Marketing Center in Guangzhou, China which is a part of a trendy, high-end, commercial and cultural center featuring port history, art, wine culture, yacht trading and tourism.
While crush is typically a stressful time of year, in the midst of it all, we are managing to open up a major international market for R&B Cellars!! A maiden voyage for the two of us! Opening up exciting new territories! We'll keep you posted.
