 From the Winemakers
Happy Holidays!
Hello Friends:
The holidays are upon us and it seems that this year has just flown by. We at
R&B hope that you and your family have had a good year and will enjoy the
holidays together with some R&B wines to help you celebrate.
It
has been a very busy year for us and we crushed our first vintage at Alameda
Point Vintners, the new facility in Alameda. We can only say that the wines
from 2009 are going to be fantastic. All of the stars came into alignment to
give us the best fruit we have seen in recent memory and we lovingly crushed,
fermented, and barreled the wines for your future enjoyment. If you get out to
the winery we would be happy to let you taste the "new kids" from the barrel so
you can see for yourself how great these wines are going to be.
The
new Port is almost ready and will hopefully be available before the end of the
month. Pizzicato Petite Sirah will be available in March of 2010.
2009
was a challenging year for many and we are very thankful for all of our loyal
followers. The future is looking brighter and as long as we are drinking good
wine with family and friends, things can only get better.
Have
a wonderful Holiday season and thank you again for your support.
Best
Regards,
Kevin
& Barbara Brown

It took a few holiday seasons, but we finally managed to procure Barbara's family recipe for the best chocolate-covered English toffee in the world. So good, it officially qualifies as 'candy crack.' Enjoy with our new Portissimo port for the ultimate sugar experience!

"I have given out this English Toffee as Christmas presents for years now, which has wreaked havoc among family and friends. Wives have hidden their stash from their husbands; they, in turn, search for it and create their own secret stashes; much coveting has gone on, and general feelings of non-giving and non-sharing have ensued! Not exactly the holiday spirit! It's just that good!" - Barbara Brown
Barbara's English Toffee
Ingredients:
* - 1lb walnuts, ground
*1 lb. semi-sweet chocolate, ground in food processor (Put
in freezer first for a few minutes to make it easier to grate in the food
processor.)
*2 C sugar
*1 lb. salted butter
*4 T light corn syrup
*1 C water
*6 ounces finely grounded walnuts
Preparation:
1) Combine the chocolate and the walnuts and spread half in
a thick layer over the bottom of a large un-greased baking sheet.
2) Combine sugar, butter, corn syrup, the 6 ounces of finely
ground walnuts, and water in a heavy enameled casserole and place over medium to medium high
heat.
3) Cook stirring constantly with a wooden spoon or spatula
until a candy thermometer reads 280 degrees. Remove from heat and pour evenly
onto the baking sheet. Spread evenly with a spatula.
4) Sprinkle remaining chocolate and nuts over the candy and
pat down with a cold spatula. Let stand in a cool place for a few hours before
breaking into bite size pieces.
Note: If you desire, wrap individual pieces in aluminum foil
Makes 5 lbs.
