AnthinyScutSTUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Anthony Scaturro has been a student at Gersh Academy in Glen Oaks, NY since July 2008. During this time he has overcome various obstacles due to his perseverance and commitment towards his education.

Initially Anthony was extremely nervous and lacked the confidence needed to achieve his goals. He often expressed his concern of not being able to keep up with classroom assignments and felt that the work would be too challenging. Although his goals were to pass all of his courses and various Regent exams, his confidence and anxiety would often interfere with his achievement. Anthony soon realized the importance of developing trusting relationships with his teachers and accepting support from staff.

HAUPPAUGEGersh Academy in Hauppauge plan for an exciting year!
The 2009 Fall Semester has commenced, and we at Gersh Academy in Hauppauge are anticipating an exciting year.  In addition to core academic sequences, the students will also be exposed to courses in Family & Consumer Science, CarEquine Therapyeer Development, and Vocational Training.  Participation in these courses will help our students to acquire and develop the many skills that they will use in daily life, whether in school, at home, or in the work place.  Our students will also have the opportunity to participate in Drama, Film Appreciation & Creation, and our Equine Program.  Each of these classes is designed to foster our students' creativity, as well as provide an opportunity for cultural enrichment. These are just a few of the reasons why we at the Hauppauge campus of Gersh Academy are looking forward to what promises to be a memorable year!
EXPERIENCECollege Students at The Gersh Experience take a trip to Niagara Falls
What do you do when 150,000 U.S. Gallons of water per second gushes over a waterfall? You make sure all the kids get to see it! And that is just what we do. Niagara Falls is just a short hop away from our office and residence halls. It is an amazing experience of nature and always a favorite of our students. We head up there and make a day of it, walking through the nature trails, marveling at the swirling mist that you can see from North Tonawanda. It is just one of the many excursions and activities that students experience including trips to the Albright-Knox museum, Shakespeare At the Park in Delaware Park, Dave and Busters for food and fun and outdoor concerts and festivals around the Niagara Region. Sometimes we even hop to Canada!
CORALROCKThe Students at  Gersh Academy in Miami dive into their lessons.
We have just completed the first month of school and the students have settled into their routine. On August 19, all the students and staff enjoyed an amazing trip to the Coral Reef. Our drive destination was John Pennekamp State Park to explore Christ of the Abyss an 8 1/2 foot, 4,000 pound bronze sculpture stands in 25 feet of water off Key Largo, Florida.  The Christ Statue is one of the most famous and visited underwater sites on earth, accessible to divers and snorkelers alike!  The students did a wonderful job, snorkeling and exploring the under water world.
WHMWest Hills Montessori takes a journey on the tribal trail.
At West Hills Montessori we are all looking forward to the start of our 20th year of providing an outstanding Montessori program to children from our youngest toddlers (18 month olds) through the sixth grade. Throughout the school year our Parent Association provides cultural and enrichment Programs to enhance the Montessori curriculum. Our entire school is looking forward to the "Journey's Eastern Woodlands Program" scheduled for Monday, September 21, 2009.  Hands-on activities capture children's attention and imagination, providing a learning experience they will never forget. The program includes a moving museum of material culture including clothing, beadwork, porcupine quillwork, containers, wampum, dolls, drums, and much more!
