A NOTE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Well, here we are in 2012. Have you had an opportunity to set a few goals for the year or plan to accomplish something special? I hope so, because "Nothing ventured, nothing gained!" I wanted to share something with you that my parents read to me at the beginning of every year. It has been one of my favorite poems and a real encouragement as well. I hope you like it too!
Born to Win
I was born to become an eagle, to spread my wings and fly
With strength and perseverance I'll continue reaching toward the sky
I was born to become a lion, to stand tall and proud and free
With faith and determination, casting a light for all to see
Like a ram I'll stand on the mountain, greeting the dawn of each new day
Prepared to meet the obstacles that should dare to block my way
Now here I am before the rising sun, with a sense of pride that stands the test
Accepting challenges, I will dare to dream, I will dare to become the best
Plan a little time this year to visit The Irvine Ranch Outdoor
Education Center and make 2012 your best year yet!

Have a Daily "Green Hour"
The National Wildlife Federation recommends a daily green hour - time set aside each day to play outside and interact with the natural world. Why? Because nature is awesome! It's amazing to look at, touch, and listen to, especially in winter. Create your own scavenger hunt with things that are found in the winter months. Make a list, give your friends a paper bag to collect the loot, and go! Here are some list-starter ideas: a dead bug, a feather, an orange and brown leaf, a y-shaped branch, a piece of fruit that has fallen off a tree, an empty nest, a small tumbleweed, a dried blossom, and a smooth river rock. Dress warm and most of all, have fun in the outdoors. We do!

New Facility Guide

Troop 1518 Shows Off Its Green Thumb! Troop 1518 adopted the Ranch Camp and built this fabulous garden! Thanks to the efforts of Kimberly Goh and Troop 1518, we now have an amazing teaching tool. Our garden teaches children about ecology, biodiversity, and conservation. The produce and herbs will be used in our kitchen.

Check Out our Citrus Zoo!
The Buddah's Hand citron is 1 of 30 varieties of citrus in the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center's citrus grove courtesy of Griffith Farms. Imported to California form Northeastern India and China in the late 19th century, this powerfully aromatic fruit's primary use is ornamental. The fruit's rind is also used to make jam and to flavor spirits. Next time your group visits the Ranch, take a self-guided tour of our citrus grove. Maps can be found in the Administration Building.

The Ranch can accommodate up to 1,000 people with pools, waterslide, archery, BB gun, zip line, team building games, meeting space and a delicious outdoor BBQ. Please call for pricing.
