WHYY 2-4-2012

Following that tried and true adage that it is better to give than to receive, AWP took to the air waves bright and early on the morning of Saturday, February 4 to answer phones for WHYY-FM during their recent fundraising drive.

"We can't thank the community enough for all that they do for us," effused Executive Director Donna J. Byrne. "Not only was it wonderful to be engaged as staff with our Board members and volunteers in a different way, it was an amazing feeling to be part of the larger community. In a time when so many in our sector have struggled with cuts, AWP was able to help another organization in need and, therefore, the community as a whole."

AWP covered all the phones that early morning when 21 staff, volunteers, and Board members piled into cars and journeyed to Philadelphia to answer phones for WHYY-FM.

"We did good and had fun doing it!" Shared Education & Training Manager Christina Baer, "We are always excited to have individuals volunteer with us. We've talked about the health benefits of volunteerism. Now we've experienced it!"
