On Tuesday, December 13, A Woman's Place (AWP) volunteers hosted a holiday party for clients of the organization and their children at Doylestown United Methodist Church (DUMC).

Nearly 50 women and 100 children who have received services from AWP in the past two years were treated to a pasta dinner and dessert. Throughout the evening, magician Jeff Strauss and local juggling troupe Band of Jugglers provided entertainment and even Santa Claus made an appearance. While the women talked with one another and took advantage of the manicure station, AWP teen volunteers escorted the children through the "Mom Shop" - a room filled with items donated by the community that they could select to wrap and give to their mothers for the holidays.

The event, which was co-chaired by Lucy Brennan and Lisa Pretecrum, was a true example of community support.

"We have been doing this event for many years," said Pretecrum. "Each year, when we see everyone gather together and forget about all of their worries and hardships for a few hours and enjoy the holiday season, we are reminded why this party is so important."

At the end of the evening, each woman was given a large bag of food collected by Boy Scout Troop #6. In addition to groceries, more than $6,000 worth of gift cards donated by individuals and local businesses to grocery stores, Toys R Us, Target, Walmart, and Kmart were distributed to attendees in order to provide some support for the holiday season.

"This is my daughter's favorite day out of the entire year," said one client. "She looks forward to this party every year, as do I. The generosity of everyone involved is incredible. I'm not quite sure where I would be without the help of A Woman's Place and all of the community members that support this important organization."

AWP would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Lucy Brennan, Lisa Pretecrum, Karen Aduba, Jim Brennan, Rev. Donna Dimeo Hammel, Rev. Mike Murphy, Sean Smith, Jeff Strauss, Band of Jugglers, the Congregation of DUMC, the Buckingham Friends School, Boy Scout Troop #6, all of the volunteers involved with the event, and all of the individuals and local businesses that contributed to the party through donations of gifts, gift cards, and baked goods.
