Meet the Corcorans

Corcoran Family
Volunteer and Role Model Dan Corcoran and the Corcoran Family.

The Corcorans are like so many families. Kids in school and activities. Working parents. Busy schedules and hectic lives that keep the family moving, and moving quickly. But not so fast that they can't give back and set an example of generosity and selflessness for everyone around them.

With Dan leading the way, the Corcorans give time to much in their lives, including A Woman's Place (AWP). Says Dan, "It's all too easy to allow our daily schedules to manage us... instead of the other way around. Volunteering at AWP allows us to take a moment, be a part of an important solution, and with humility and compassion, serve those whose daily schedules revolve around the very basic of human rights - food, shelter, and safety. As a family, our volunteering at AWP serves as a reminder that if we're not part of the solution... we're part of the problem."

November is National Inspirational Role Models Month (NIRM) and National Family Week (NFW) is November 20-26. NIRM began in 2005 and is an opportunity to acknowledge the impact that role models have on our lives, whether they are family, friends, colleagues, or others. NFW is about building community connections and honoring the strengthening of families through local activities because children live better lives when their families are strong and strong families build thriving communities.

"35 years ago, volunteers started AWP," shares Executive Director Donna J. Byrne. "Today, volunteers continue to be an invaluable resource and AWP is better for the contributions they make to our community every day. Families like the Corcorans make AWP better."

AWP thanks and salutes the Corcorans and all of the others who serve as inspirational role models and who are building strong families and thriving communities.
