| A Special Message from the Executive Director |
|
On March 2, 2010, President Obama released a Presidential Proclamation in honor of Women's History Month. He spoke of the women that appear within the pages of United States History books - from the suffragettes, to Sylvia Mendez who catalyzed the desegregation of schools, to Caroline Moore who at the young age of 14 contributed to advances in astronomy by discovering a supernova.
As I reflect upon the breakthroughs that these women have made, I am also reminded that it is important to recognize those women who may not be discussed in a grade school history class.
Take a moment to focus on the women that you know in your everyday life. We often look to our history books for inspiration, for there are many fine examples within the pages, but there are many women we come across everyday that have overcome obstacles, taken care of their families under great duress, and changed our personal histories forever.
President Obama stated, "When women like these reach their potential, our country as a whole prospers. That is the duty of our Government - not to guarentee success, but to ensure all Americans can achieve it." A Woman's Place (AWP) envisions a society in which all individuals are safe in their intimate and familial relationships and have the space to thrive and develop to thier full potential.
I ask you to not only recognize the famous women we have learned about over the years during Women's History Month, but also pay tribute to those unsung heroines with whom you are personally familiar. Take time to thank them for the positive changes they have made in your life. AWP offers the option of making a gift in honor of an individual directly online. By clicking here to make a small gift in honor of your personal heroine, you can help AWP continue to do the work that will someday ensure that every individual is able to develop to their full potential without obstacles.
It is important to remeber that it is not necessary to be famous to make a difference. I would like to personally thank all of the women who are making history right now, whether or not it may be recorded in the history books of our future.
Gratefully yours, Donna J. Byrne |

A Decadent Event
On February 13th, amid the various snowstorms of the week, A Woman's Place (AWP) and more than 200 members of the community gathered together to "Eat Dessert First" and celebrate the 15th anniversary Chocolate Lovers' Fantasy.
The event was held, once again, at the majestic Tyler Hall on the campus of Bucks County Community College in Newtown. Attendees were served delicious hors d'oeuvres made by Memorable Affairs, sipped on beer and wine, and indulged in a dessert spread that measured more than 55 feet in length made of chocolate confections donated by more than 40 bakeries and individuals throughout the county.
