A Step in the Right Direction
Last month, I appealed to the community to contact our State Senators and State Representatives in order to gain support for House Bills 1586 and 1588 and Senate Bills 919 and 920. This legislation will increase the existing marriage license fee for domestic violence services from the current $10 to $35, and will dedicate a $25 fee on divorce filings. It will also raise additional revenue for the Children's Trust Fund via a $25 increase to the marriage license fee and a $15 increase to the divorce filing fee. These increases will generate more than $3 million more each year for life-saving services to victims. I am pleased to say that both the house bills and the senate bills have passed through their respective Judiciary Committees this week! This is a great victory, and could not have been accomplished without the help of everyone who contacted their local senators and state representatives to lobby for support. These bills must still pass through their respective Appropriations Committees before they will be presented to the Senate and the House floors. We still need your help to ensure that we have continued support from our legislators throughout this process. It is important at this stage to both thank all those who voted yes and contributed to the successful vote as well as continue the efforts to get more legislators to support these bills. Giving at A Woman's Place
A Woman's Place (AWP) is thrilled to announce that it is making it easier to give! AWP's Monthly Giving Program is a convenient and easy way to make a contribution to building a safe and healthy community by ending abuse and violence. Monthly giving is not only a wonderful way to remain connected with AWP; it is a fabulous way to ensure that vital programs and services to end violence are sustained. The current economic climate is characterized by uncertainty. Monthly giving is the direct opposite of that - committing a regular, sustaining financial gift that helps builds the programs and services AWP delivers. Just giving $10, $25, $50, or more each month strengthens the foundation of AWP as it moves into the future. Contributions of any amount are deeply appreciated. For more information about AWP's Monthly Giving Program, please contact Jenny Salisbury via email or at 215.343.9241 ext. 108. Click here to donate now online! |

Volunteering at A Woman's Place
To many, a volunteer is simply someone who contributes time to helping others with no expectation of pay or material benefit. In fact, volunteer work can be of great consequence for the volunteer. It is widely believed that helping others can be as beneficial for the donor as it is for the recipient. A Woman's Place (AWP) welcomes individuals looking to volunteer. Built by volunteers, the vital work of building a safe and healthy community by ending abuse and violence would not be possible without the generous donations of time from AWP volunteers. With opportunities for teens and adults, there is something for everybody at AWP. Interested in learning more about how you can get involved?
