AWP's Administrative Office Needs Your Help!

The front office in AWP's administrative building needs some volunteer support. Volunteers are needed to help answer phones, accept donations, and do light administrative work to support the front office staff. No prior training is necessary. Support is needed Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. For more information please contact Ifeoma Aduba at 215-343-9241 x111 or by email.
Making the Most of Volunteers
According to a recent article written by Aaron Hurst and published in The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Americans' interest in volunteering is particularly high. In fact, interest is so high that it has become challenging for many organizations to accommodate everyone's interest.

It is reported that this interest may be the result of inspiring government leadership resulting from President Obama signing the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act into law in April. It may also be that the recession has forced companies and their employees to re-think their role in society.

Hurst reports that the tendency may be to try to fit volunteers into providing direct services. Meanwhile, nonprofit leaders are reporting a need for contributions of time that will strengthen organizational structure. According to a study released by the Deloitte consulting firm in April, 95 percent of nonprofit groups reported that the needed more pro bono services.

At A Woman's Place (AWP)... we want and need it all. Volunteers interested in providing direct services - answering our Hotline, accompanying victims of domestic violence to court, or leading a support group - are welcome! If you prefer providing office or administrative support, have a knack for writing policies and procedures, or like the idea of staffing an information table - you are also welcome! There are great opportunities for teens to get involved - designing a graduation project, playing with children in the safe house, or helping out in Full Circle, AWP's thrift store. AWP is eager to expand its ranks of volunteers and looks forward to helping everyone find their place in ending violence. Bottom line... there is something for everyone!

Volunteering at AWP is an investment in social change and a safer community. To learn more about volunteering at AWP, fill in the How To Volunteer form online or contact Community Educator Angela Hiller at 215.343.9241 ext. 109 or by email.
