| The Benefits of Volunteerism |
|
|
There is any number of reasons to volunteer. Maybe you have skills that you could offer to a group or individuals. Meaningful volunteer work might incorporate these skills and fill a much needed void at an organization. You might also be looking for an activity that you can engage in with your family or friends, bringing all of you closer together and giving you a shared experience and a wonderful memory. Perhaps you are looking to try something new. At A Woman's Place (AWP), volunteers are an indispensable part of the organization's work and success. As the only domestic violence organization in Bucks County, Pa., there are a diverse array of enriching experiences for teens and adults, girls and boys, women and men - and plenty of need! Joining the AWP volunteer community is a great way to support individuals and families that are experiencing domestic abuse and violence, and to take an active role in promoting and building a safer community for everyone. Volunteers can be trained to provide services directly to the victims that AWP services - answering the hotline, accompanying victims to court, providing transportation to appointments, assisting with daycare, or facilitating support groups. They can also be trained to provide administrative support or delivering education presentations throughout the community. There are also great opportunities for teens to get involved - designing a graduation project, playing with children in the safe house, or helping out in Full Circle, AWP's thrift store. Furthermore, at AWP service project abound, offering several possibilities for families, friends, or co-workers to join together on a volunteer project. Bottom line... there is something for everyone! Volunteering at AWP is not charity. It's an investment in social change and a safer community. To learn more about volunteering at AWP, fill in the How To Volunteer form online or contact Education & Training Director Mary Sonke at 215.343.9241 ext. 112 or email. |
