| Greetings!
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN OUR SCISSORS?!?!BY Jim Smith We seem to have had a TON of Ribbon Cuttings lately and it occurred to me that you might not know all you need to know about what they are. Ribbon Cuttings are one of the more visible things that the Chamber does and it applies to more than just a new business. Ribbon Cuttings involve our Lakesiders - if you don't know about them you need to! The Lakesiders are the Chamber's official ambassador group, representing us in the community in so many ways. When you schedule a Ribbon Cutting through our office you are almost guaranteed a good attendance - the Lakesiders are measured on how many of these events they attend. So what might qualify for a Ribbon Cutting, you ask? Well, the list might include:
- A new business.
- A new addition to your building, a new wing.
- A new product line offering.
- A new partner or key employee.
- A relocation.
- A new, big contract.
- A new piece of significant equipment .
- Anything you'd like to showcase as a change in your community.
Did that whet your appetite? Let your mind go crazy about ways to use your Davis Chamber membership. AS the host company you usually provide some kind of treats for your guests, invite your existing contacts or family or friends, invite the mayor, etc. The Chamber shows up with OUR BIG SCISSORS! Honestly, sometimes it takes two people to handle them. You've gotta see 'em!
If all you want is to have a chance to invite the Chamber members over to get to know your business and do some comfortable outreach, then maybe our Business After Hours is a better fit for you - in fact, sometimes we combine the Ribbon Cuttings with a Business After Hours to maximize the impact of the event! But more on that in a future article. Thanks for being part of the Davis Chamber. Jim |

The 2010 Clear the Air Challenge is about to start, and we need your participation. The UDOT TravelWise program has once again partnered with Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Solutions and others to put on the Challenge in an effort to reduce traffic congestion, reduce energy consumption and improve air quality.
Once you join, you simply log in and use the TravelWise Tracker to log the trips you save by using TravelWise strategies including carpooling/vanpooling, walking and biking, taking transit, compressed workweeks, etc. The Tracker shows you how your trips measure up in terms of energy, emissions and money saved. Your participation could even win you some great prizes.
Please take a minute to sign up for the Challenge, which runs July 1-31. You can participate as an individual, or join or create a team. If you participated last year, you already have a login. If you're new to the Challenge this year, signing up is easy.
Go to www.cleartheairchallenge.org to learn more and to sign up for the Challenge.
