| Greetings!

Half Way Home By Jim Smith Is anybody besides me amazed that we just made it through the first half of 2010? How did that happen? I've told some of you that, when you are over the hill, you start to pick up speed! I thought I'd make a couple of observations about the first six months of the Chamber's operations, plus make a request of you all. On the whole I'd say the successes of these past months outweigh the things I'd like to have a "do over" on. The year started out superbly with our Annual Awards Banquet - it exceeded our expectations and was a VERY eventful evening. Same story with NUBES, the B2B Expo, and the Golf Tournament - all were very well organized by excellent committees and came off without a hitch. The only disappointment was the attendance at NUBES but we have taken steps to address that in 2011. Watch and see!
We had excellent attendance at the Governor's Luncheon, including the Executive Circle portion - what a great event and an honor to host Governor Herbert. Things like our Transportation Summit were a hit - doing something that had never been done attracted some nice media attention which leads to community awareness and involvement in the process.
Progress you don't see yet might include the new Web Site that is under development. You will love it! Our Legislative Affairs Committee is making adjustments to the way we have done business in the past and we anticipate a more active role in the upcoming legislative session.
Overall, I'd say the Chamber is off to a GREAT START! So what can you do to help, you ask?!?!
For the next six months Angie and I are going to be focused on bringing new businesses into the Chamber - like your business, SALES IS THE LIFEBLOOD OF THE CHAMBER! So who do you know that deserves to be a member of the Davis Chamber of Commerce??
If you like the things you have been seeing, share it with a friend. Not only will it be good for them, but it will also help you indirectly as we grow. Growth will allow us to reach out even further and impact more important areas of business in Davis County.
I'm serious - think about it and let Angie or me know. We will contact them and explain the benefits of Chamber membership. The investment in the Chamber is so reasonable compared to the benefits that I am convinced many more would be willing to join with a little introduction from you!
Thanks for all you do! Let's continue to grow together. Jim |

Children's Health Connection
The Children's Health Connection is a health fair held each year in Central Ogden for underprivileged and underserved children and will be held on July 9-10,2010. . The children receive free medical exams, dental exams, immunizations, haircuts, book bags, hearing and developmental screenings, etc. Approximately 2,000 children are seen during the 2-day period. This event is a collaboration between Ogden Jr. League, Midtown Clinic, McKay-Dee Hospital and the McKay-Dee Foundation. Hundreds of volunteers work the event to ensure that children receive services getting them ready for school. This year, more volunteers are needed. Spanish interpreters are especially needed for all shifts, and there are spots available for non bilingual volunteers on Saturday. The 2010 Clear the Air Challenge is about to start, and we need your participation. The UDOT TravelWise program has once again partnered with Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Solutions and others to put on the Challenge in an effort to reduce traffic congestion, reduce energy consumption and improve air quality.
Once you join, you simply log in and use the TravelWise Tracker to log the trips you save by using TravelWise strategies including carpooling/vanpooling, walking and biking, taking transit, compressed workweeks, etc. The Tracker shows you how your trips measure up in terms of energy, emissions and money saved. Your participation could even win you some great prizes.
Please take a minute to sign up for the Challenge, which runs July 1-31. You can participate as an individual, or join or create a team. If you participated last year, you already have a login. If you're new to the Challenge this year, signing up is easy.
Go to www.cleartheairchallenge.org to learn more and to sign up for the Challenge.
