| Greetings!

LAST CALL TO HEAR OUR GOVERNOR! BY Jim Smith It is quite an honor to have Governor Herbert agree to come address the Davis Chamber at our luncheon this week. We have just over 100 who have reserved their space to attend. I committed to have 125 attend, and have the option of increasing to 150 or more if necessary. But this is NOT about hitting some arbitrary number of attendees! I have some pretty serious reasons to want us to have a FULL HOUSE for this event. In the eyes of many people in this state, Davis County is an enigma. While we are one of the most populous, concentrated counties, we lack the one large, dominant city that becomes our identity. Weber County has Ogden. Salt Lake County has Salt Lake City. Utah County has Provo/Orem. But Davis County is divided into many smaller cities which, individually, do not have the clout that we have if we join together. I want Governor Herbert to look at Davis County as a UNIFIED ENTITY with common interests that we would like addressed. If he comes to Davis County to address a meeting of only 100 people he just won't feel the same impact as if there were 150 or 200 people in attendance. I want him to sense a strong support from the community for what we are trying to accomplish in the Chamber.
Our Chamber is becoming a more potent force in the Utah legislative scene. There are issues that should be important to each of us - for example, transportation comes to mind immediately. In a world where monetary resources are TIGHT, I want to see a few of our projects get pushed to the front of the list. Are you interested in improving the I-15 access at 5th South and at 2600 South in
Bountiful/NSL? Would you like to see the I-15 corridor finished from Kaysville to I-84? How about east/west improvements throughout our county? What are YOUR transportation priorities? Come, listen, and speak up if you want - but let the Governor see your face.
Think you won't get anything out of it? You will! But more importantly, your face in our Davis County crowd will add to the impression he carries away from his trip to the Davis Chamber. Your presence adds IMMENSELY!
I need to turn in the final lunch count Tuesday morning. Get on the RSVP list by noon Tuesday PLEASE. Contact us at 801 593 2200 or daviscc@davischamberofcommerce.com. Thanks for all you do to help show pride in Davis County. See you Thursday for lunch. Jim |
