Don't Miss This One!

By Jim Smith

Another BIG EVENT is on the way!  Every year the Davis Chamber sponsors the Northern Utah Business and Economic Summit (NUBES for short) and it is a excellent source of current information for you and your business.  YOU WILL WANT TO ATTEND!  Special thanks go to our Primary Sponsor, Energy Solutions, as well as our other sponsors for generous contributions that make this all possible.

NUBES is being held on Wednesday, March 17th (yes, St Patrick's Day - better wear green) at the Davis Campus of WSU.  It is an ALL-DAY EVENT, with registration starting at 7:30 AM and our first speaker at 8 AM.

Yes, it has the usual economic stuff that some people may find a bit boring!  But don't let some preconception about other economic seminars you may have attended in the past scare you away.  Our theme this year is "Get in the Game! - does that sound like a boring meeting to you??

Let me tell you a bit about what to expect:

·         Dell Brown, President of MonaVie, will be our kick off speaker.  MonaVie was recently recognized as Utah's #1 Business - you will want to hear what he has to say!

·         One of your biggest challenges will be trying to figure out which BREAKOUT SESSIONS to attend.  You will have to chose between the following:

o   A panel of our Davis County legislators Stuart Adams, Julie Fisher, and Becky Edwards talking about how the Legislative Sessions impacts your business.

o   LeeAnn Linderman, Zions Bank EVP, who will address "What Women in Business Need to Know" - you will LOVE LeeAnn!

o   Our very own Brad Wilson of Destination Homes will address "The Top Ten Things I Learned About Business Survival".  Hey, he is a residential contractor and he has learned A LOT over the last couple of years!  You'll learn vital things about business in a down economy that will change the way you see things!

o   Dr Lewis Gale, Head of the Economics Dept at WSU.  His topic will focus on Davis County economics for 2010.  I promise a lively discussion of the pitfalls and opportunities that lie ahead.

·         Just for fun, and to stay with the theme of the event, Coach Ron McBride of the Weber State Football Team will be our luncheon speaker.  He is always fun!  Look for some great team-building tips!

·         We have 11 presenters who have FIVE MINUTES EACH in what we call our RAPID FIRE SESSION.  I've always found these interesting - forcing people to put their info into five minutes (with a timer breathing down your neck) keeps things focused and lively.  You will walk away with some great input on local resources to help your business.

·         One presentation that will be worth the cost itself alone will be SOCIAL NETWORKING by Cyndi Tetro.  She presented to our Leadership Institute and they demanded more!  Do you know how to use Facebook and Linkedin to grow sales?  She does!  Come learn about the next wave of marketing - don't be left behind!

Cost is $95 for a Chamber member or $165 for two.  What a deal!!  Non-Chamber members are obviously higher.  Discount if you sign up by March 1st.  You will have a full day of energetic education, breakfast and lunch catered, snacks, plenty of handouts and a portfolio.  The event will end by 3:30 PM.

So please come join me for a great day!  Education is what will differentiate you from your competition!

See you there.  Jim
