HAWAIIAN THOUGHTS

By Jim Smith

So here I am, sitting on a beach in Hawaii writing this article for the Newsletter - OK, that is not entirely true.  I actually AM sitting on a beach in Hawaii while you are reading this but I'm writing this article BEFORE I leave!  Talk about dedication.

I have two items to make you aware of (BRIEFLY) and then I am out the door.

Number One - Chamber Experiment with Facebook

One thing we need to get better at is the use of social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) to communicate in today's world.  The Chamber has a Facebook account but has not kept it up - sorry, but I'm working on a lot of things simultaneously - your patience is appreciated. One of my goals is to make sure the Chamber is COMMUNICATING the things that are going on to our general membership.  Here is the link to the page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=39761447060. More comprehensive content will be coming!

Number Two - Golf Tournament

One of the most enjoyable things we get to do this summer is GOLF!  [Yes, golf is a four-letter word]  As you know from past observation, I always believe that to get things done right we need to get a bunch of people involved in organizing our events.  It worked for the Awards Banquet, and it is working for NUBES and B2B.  The Golf Tournament is no exception.

Lance Eastman from Lagoon has graciously volunteered to be the Chair of our Golf Tournament Committee.  Shirley Bouwhuis also volunteered to help since she has a lot of experience with the Golf Tournament.  Now all I need is a few people who want to join in on the planning!  Are you up to it??!!

The date is already set - June 3rd at the Hubbard Golf Course at HAFB.  And I am told that we never have any trouble finding people who want to golf - all spots sell out quickly.  The committee will be in charge of organizing some fun prizes, setting up sponsors who want to run contests along the course (closest to the pin, longest drive, straightest drive, number of tees in the jar, etc), coordinating food with local Chamber vendors, etc.  There are lots of details - but none of them are too overpowering if we have a group willing to join in on the planning.

The annual Golf Tournament is the Chamber's one big fund raiser each year.  The level of service we provide to our members is largely driven by how effective we are in this BIG event.  Our Chamber is in the midst of a very energetic growth spurt!  You will find that the Golf Tournament is no exception - it will grow to new heights this year!

Come be part of one of our next success stories!  Let us know if you would like to volunteer by calling us at 801 593 2200 or by email at daviscc@davischamberofcommerce.com.

Thanks. Aloha. Jim
