Season's Greetings from the Chamber Staff!
By Jim Smith, President & CEO
How about just a short message from me this week?! I'm feeling a need to step back from all that is coming at me for a moment, take a deep breath, and reflect on some of the things I have to be grateful for.
Here is what I see when I look at the Chamber:
· We have a wonderful, dedicated, motivated staff in Kerry and Megan.
· We just officially hired a new Sales & Events Director (I'll give you more background on her in future updates).
· We have a Board of Directors who is in full support of the direction we want to take the Chamber. They are amazingly talented and generous in dedicating their time and talents to meet our goals.
· We have a very solid member base to work from. Each week I meet more of you and I continue to come away impressed and excited.
· There is a lot of energy in the Chamber right now! People seem invigorated by the changes we want to make.
· We live and work in a WONDERFUL place, surrounded by beauty and good people to support us.
· Are there CHALLENGES? Yup! And I count those challenges among the things I am grateful for. We have a solid plan in place and the resources to make it work.
So, I am excited about the future and where the Chamber will be in one year, five years, and beyond! I'm hoping that you will all want to come along for the ride! And bring some friends along with you too!
From all of us at the Chamber let me wish you and yours the very best of the season!
Regardless of how you celebrate the season (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, etc) let's focus on all the things we have in common rather than the things that make us different. Reach out to someone you don't know and allow yourself to be filled with a feeling of appreciation for all that we enjoy living and working in Davis County. We are surrounded by some excellent people!
Thanks for all you do in our community! Jim

Utah Educational Savings Plan
(Salt Lake City)
The State of Utah offers a state tax credit for Utah taxpayers who own and contribute to an account with the Utah Educational Savings Plan (UESP), the state's 529 college savings program.
To receive the 2009 credit, contributions are due at the UESP office before 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time, Thursday, December 31, 2009.
For 2009, Utah taxpayers can claim a 5% tax credit on UESP contributions up to $1,740 per beneficiary for single filers ($3,480 per beneficiary for joint filers). To receive the credit, the beneficiary on the account must have been designated as such before turning age 19.
"With the year-end tax deadline approaching, now is the time to remind Utahns that saving for college with the Utah Educational Savings Plan shows our children that the decision to seek a college education is as important as the decisions we make regarding a career and family," said William Sederburg, Commissioner of the Utah System of Higher Education. "It requires long-term planning and preparation"
Contributions and new account applications must be received at the Utah Educational Savings Plan office before 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time, Thursday, December 31, 2009. Contributions can be made online at www.uesp.org or mailed to UESP, PO Box 145100, Salt Lake City, UT 84114 -5100 or dropped off at UESP'soffice located at The Gateway 2, Board of Regents Building, 60 South 400 West, Salt Lake City, UT.
ALSO--
We are also offering another year-end benefit to encourage Utah parents, grandparents, and relatives to open a 529 college savings account. When a Utah resident opens a new, unique account with a minimum $25 contribution, between November 30, 2009 and December 24, 2009, Zions Bank will make a matching $25 contribution to the account. ifstions.
