Good News in Davis County!
Here at the Davis Chamber we've had enough of the steady flow of negative reoprting about the global economic outlook...and we aim to turn the tide.
That's not to say that we don't have an asolutely solid and fact-based understanding of the economic realities of the day. We certainly do. In fact, everything the Chamber will do this year will be geared to help our members strengthen and grow their business in any circumstance...just as it always has been. We also know there are two sides to every story and much of life's success depends on which side of events we choose to place our focus.
We know there are stories of undaunted business to be told in the Davis Chamber Weekly News...abd beyond.
If your Davis County business has recently generated new opportunities, imaginative solutions, creative marketing, innovative service, and good old hard-earned success, please tell us about it.
Send us a brief description of what your business has done to generate success in the past year. We'll then post your story in the new "Good News" section of the Davis Chamber Weekly News and on the Davis Chamber website.
Send your entries (marked "Good News") to jpitt@davischamber fcommerce.com
Here are some good news letters from two of our members - Layton Hills Mall and the Northern Utah Academy for Math, Engineering, and Science.
From Barry Smith, General Manager - Layton Hills Mall:
John: Thanks for this effort. Just like there arecompanies who find a way to go out of business in good times, there are companies that find a way to increase their business in bad times. Around the mall, here are a few notable examples:
The Buckle: Sales are up YTD by more than 20%. This is a chain store doing very well all across the country, bucking the trend at the Buckle.
Charley's Steakery: Sales are up YTD by about 15%. The local owner received a lot of publicity this summer when he donated a kidney to one of his low income employees.
Times Ticking: Sales were up in the 3rd quarter by almost 20%. A new local owner of this store has been able to turn things around even in difficult circumstances.
Grassroots Aveda Salon: Sales are up almost 10% and the local owner reports that she is doing well, proving that businesses who provide good service and pay attention to their customers will maintain their business in tough times.
Also, all of the restaurants on the mall campus as well as the movie theater are seeing sales increases, indicating that although customers may have pulled back on some retail expenditures, they are still out spending money on restaurants and movies.
From Deb Hefner, Business Administrator - NUAMES:
The Northern utah Academy for Math, Engineering and Science (NUAMES), in partnership with Weber State University, is an Early College High School. Located on the WSU campus in Layton, we serve grades 10 - 12 as a public charter high school. Our second graduating class had 75 graduates, 18 of whom earned their Associates Degree. NUAMES gives students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school! Students who qualify can get all their WSU paid. We are currently recruiting students for next year's 10th and 11th grades. Please visit our website at www.nuames.org
Congratulations to these Chamber member businesses. Be sure to let us know about your successes. We want to hear from you.
