| Washington, DC - March 7, 2011 - After receiving a record-setting number of nominations from across North America, the Alliance for Biking & Walking will honor seven leading advocates, organizations and business leaders at its 2011 Advocacy Awards Reception on March 8 in Washington, DC.
Since 2009, the Alliance has recognized excellence in the bicycle and pedestrian movement with a national award program that solicits nominations from the public in the following categories: Advocate of the Year, Advocacy Organization of the Year, Business Advocate of the Year, Winning Campaign of the Year, Innovation Award, Best Practices Award and the Susie Stephens Joyful Enthusiasm Award.
"The Alliance is privileged to work with more than 170 state and local advocacy organizations across the continent," Jeff Miller, Alliance President/CEO, said. "In 2010, we saw tremendous progress at the state and local level, thanks to tireless and innovative advocacy leaders. The Advocacy Awards are an opportunity for us to shine a spotlight on some of that critical, inspiring work."
The winners will be announced at the 2011 Advocacy Awards Reception on March 8, 2011 from 8:30 - 10:30 p.m. at Harriet's (432 11th St. NW, Washington, DC). The event is free and open to the public. Winners of the awards will be present.
